McMaster Sets Record

    Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s cross country team finished second again today at the UH-Hilo Invitational on the Big Island.  BYU–Hawaii finished with 48 points in the 6K meet to place behind Hawaii Pacific’s 18 points.
    Transfer Brendan McMaster, running in his first race as a Seasider, turned in the best time of the day for the Seasiders with a fifth-place finish in 20:02 to set a new BYU–Hawaii record for a 6K race.  He broke the old record, set by Jeremy Van Tress at the same meet in 2004, by six seconds.  Matthew Belliston came in a second behind Van Tress’ old record at 20:09 to take seventh place for the Seasiders while Rivers Puzey and Jon Hooke placed ninth and tenth respectively for BYU–Hawaii in times of 20:29 and 20:30.  Also finishing for the Seasiders were Chad Nahoolewa, 17th in 21:22, and Brandon Krout, 20th in 21:47.
    Hawaii Pacific’s Andreas Schwab won the race in 19:30.
     The Seasiders will be back in action again next Saturday at the UH Big Wave Invitational in Kaneohe at 7:30 am HST.
