Seasiders Fall To Number Six Sonoma
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team opened the season
today with a 5-0 loss to the nation’s sixth-ranked team, Sonoma State. The young Seasiders battled hard throughout
the contest but fell behind early to last year’s NCAA II quarterfinalists.
Sonoma State
scored at the 14:51 mark on a short, tap-in goal by Nathan Medina and got a
second goal a scant minute and seven seconds later by Ross Middlemiss. Doug Carr added a score at the 33:29 point
and Middlemiss tallied again just seconds before the end of the half to stake
the Seawolves to a 4-0 halftime lead.
The Seasiders played
tough in the second half but couldn’t come away with a score despite taking
seven shots in the period. Middlemiss
completed a hat trick with the only goal of the half at the 52:24 mark. For the game, Sonoma State out shot the Seasiders 25 to
ten.
BYU–Hawaii will face Texas-Permian
Basin on Saturday at 10:00 am HST in Laie.
