Seasiders Lose Tough One to Conference Leader

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men’s soccer team lost a tough, 1-0 decision to conference leader Dixie State today in a Pacific West Conference match.  Despite playing a man down for most of the game due to an early red card, the Seasiders matched the Red Storm shot-for-shot but came up just short to fall to 7-3-1 for the season and 3-2-1 in the conference.

Dixie State scored the only goal of the game on a looping shot by Jordan Roylance, off a Tyler Abretson free kick, that barely crossed the goal line before being booted away by a BYU-Hawaii defender.  The goal was not initially called good until the line judge conferred with the referee and it was ruled in.  Roylance’s sixth goal of the season came in just the second minute of play.

BYU-Hawaii’s Kamuela Kamoe picked up a red card for arguing in the 14th minute and the Seasiders were forced to play a man short for the final 76:37 of the game.  However, the Seasiders continued to battle and twice had shots hit the side posts of the goal.  Brett Waters header bounced off the post in the 39th minute and Justin Allen drilled a shot off the post in the 49th minute.  The Seasiders and Red Storm each finished with 12 shots for the match.

The Seasiders will play again on Wednesday against Cal Baptist at 3:00 pm in Laie.
