Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Grand Canyon 3-1 tonight on the road in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders downed the Antelopes by a score of 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16 to improve to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest.
Freshman Stella Chen pounded 18 kills, came up with 17 digs, made four assists, and served two aces to lead the Seasider attack. Junior Lauren Hagemeyer put away 16 kills, hit .324, put up four blocks, and also managed to set for six assists in a strong all-around match for BYU-Hawaii. Senior Aika Becker knocked down 12 kills and senior Losaline Pula came up with 35 digs, four assists, and three kills. Ariel Hsu put up four blocks for the Seasiders and setter Michelle Chen finished the night with 43 assists, four blocks, 18 digs, and five kills.
Grand Canyon, now 8-5 for the season and 2-3 in the PacWest was led by Janae Giles with 12 kills and Mackenzie Phelps with 29 digs.
BYU-Hawaii will face Grand Canyon again tomorrow night in Phoenix, Arizona at 6:00 pm MST in a Pacific West Conference match.
