Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated Hawaii Pacific tonight in the first game, but then lost three straight to lose their Pacific West Conference opener 3-1. The Seasiders hit .382 in taking the first game 25-16, but then hit just .114 the rest of the night as they lost the final three games 20-25, 16-25, 25-27.
The Seasiders held a 22-20 lead in the fourth game and twice served for the set but the Sea Warriors scored the last three points to bring the match to a close.
Stella Chen knocked down 18 kills and had 14 digs to lead the BYU-Hawaii attack. Lauren Hagemeyer put away 12 kills and Losaline Pula came up with 14 digs for the Seasiders. Michelle Chen put up 42 assists and Courtney Skaggs put up five blocks in the loss.
Natasha Bell had 19 kills to lead Hawaii Pacific, now 6-5 for the season and 1-1 in the conference. Kyra Pulayo had 18 digs and five aces for the Sea Warriors.
BYU-Hawaii will face Chaminade in Laie at 7:30 pm on Saturday in a Pacific West Conference match.
