Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated UH-Hilo 3-1 tonight in a non-conference match as part of the Hawaii Challenge Cup. The Seasiders and Vulcans played to a scoreless first half before turning on the offense in the second half with BYU-Hawaii scoring the final three goals of the game to improve to 2-0 for the season.
UH-Hilo scored early in the second half when Lane Lorenzo booted home a ball in the 49th minute after BYU-Hawaii goalie Josiah Holtz was forced out of the goal to stop a shot and Lorenzo came up with the rebound. The Seasiders responded in the 68th minute when Zack Dupaix tallied off a rebound to knot the score.
Justin Allen tallied the game winner for the Seasiders in the 77th minute following a free kick from the left side by Kamuela Kamoe. Allen deflected the ball into the left corner of the net to give BYU-Hawaii the lead for good. Dupaix scored an insurance goal off a rebound following a corner kick in the 82nd minute for the Seasiders.
BYU–Hawaii will be in action again on tomorrow against Chaminade in Kaneohe at 12:30 pm as part of the Hawaii Challenge Cup Tournament.
