Seasiders Win Again

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team picked up its third win of the week tonight with an 87-69 win over conference newcomer Dominican in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders took the lead five minutes into the game and never trailed thereafter despite Dominican keeping it close throughout most of the game.  BYU–Hawaii gradually pulled away in the second half and improved to 12-5 for the season and 6-2 in the PacWest.

Junior Marques Whippy scored his sixth double-double of the season by scoring 19 points and pulling down 14 rebounds to go with three steals and three assists for the Seasiders.  A.J. Reilly scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for BYU–Hawaii while Lucas Alves tallied 17 points and also snared eight rebounds for the Seasiders.  BYU–Hawaii dominated the backboards, snatching 45 rebounds to just 26 for the Penguins.  J.R. Buensuceso and Heath Gameren each tossed in 11 points for the Seasiders and Gameren handed out five assists to Buensuceso’s four.

Austin Bryan scored 24 points to lead Dominican, now 6-12 for the season and 3-4 in the conference.  Xander McNally had 13 points in the loss.

BYU-Hawaii will face Chaminade next, on Friday in Laie at 7:30 pm HST in another Pacific West Conference contest.
