BYUH Gets Second Win in a Row

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team won its second game in a row tonight, defeating Dominican 78-64 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders pulled away from a 27-27 halftime by hitting 27-30 free throws in the second half to pull away from the Penguins and improve to 7-11 for the season and 3-5 in the PacWest.

The Seasiders never trailed in the opening 20 minutes despite the first half being close throughout.  However, Dominican took a short lead in the second half and held a 38-36 advantage just past the 12-minute mark of the period.  An eight-point run by the Seasiders gave BYU–Hawaii the lead for good, though, and the Seasiders hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the win and add to the final margin.

Richelle Fenenbock scored 13 points and handed out five assists to lead the Seasider attack.  Mahina Gago and Zori Drew added 12 points apiece and Drew pulled down six rebounds for the Seasiders.  Lindsey grabbed 11 rebounds and scored eight points for BYU–Hawaii while Dara Tompkison and Mina Romito each tallied nine points in the win.

Alisha Flaaten scored 18 points to lead Dominican, now 4-14 for the season and 1-6 in the PacWest.  Kimi Nakamura had 14 points while Raquel Gomes had 12 points and ten rebounds for the Penguins.

BYU–Hawaii will face Chaminade on Friday in Laie at 5:00 pm HST.
