BYUH Overcomes Urban Knights for Second Conference Win
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team picked up its second conference win of the season tonight, defeating Academy of Art 80-75 in a Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders pulled away from a 35-35 halftime tie and hit clutch free throws down the stretch to hold off the Urban Knights and improve to 6-11 for the season and 2-5 in the PacWest.
Felisita Ika scored on a short bank shot with just under three minutes to play to break a 68-68 tie to give the Seasiders the lead for good and Richelle Fenenbock hit a three-pointer with less than a minute to go to extend the lead to 76-70. After a three-pointer by the Urban Knight’s Lorraine Etchell, Dara Tompkison sealed the win with a pair of free throws and then scored a breakaway layup to end the game.
Fenenbock and Ika each scored 17 points to lead BYU–Hawaii. Losaline Faka’osi came off the bench to score ten points and Lindsey Sundin pulled down 12 rebounds to go with seven points for the Seasiders. Tompkison finished with nine points while Mahina Gago and Zori Drew scored eight each. Tompkison dished out eight assists in the game and had no turnovers as the point guard. Gago added seven rebounds and three assists.
Verity Peets scored 19 points to lead Academy of Art, now 6-13 for the season and 2-6 in the PacWest. Jessica Nolan had 15 points and matched Peets with ten rebounds in the loss.
BYU–Hawaii will face conference newcomer Dominican (CA) on Saturday in Laie at 5:00 pm HST.
