Seasiders Get First Conference Win

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team won a hard-fought game against Chaminade tonight, 54-51, in Pacific West Conference action.  The Seasiders parlayed a 45-31 advantage on the boards to hold off the Silverswords on the road and improved to 5-10 for the year and 1-4 in the conference.

The Seasiders led by one, 24-23, at halftime, relinquished the lead momentarily around six minutes into the second period, but quickly regained the lead and held on for the win.  BYU–Hawaii’s largest lead of the game was just six points, once in each half, and the Silverswords led by only two points, also once each half, as the teams kept it close throughout the game.

Richelle Fenenbock scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Seasiders.  She hit three three-pointers and also came away with three steals in the win.  Losaline Faka’osi tallied eight points, seven rebounds, and three steals off the bench for BYU–Hawaii and Mahina Gago added seven points for the Seasiders.  Dara Tompkison handed out four assists and grabbed five rebounds for BYU–Hawaii while Kristen Hartley added eight rebounds.

Samantha Saito scored 15 points to lead Chaminade, now 1-12 for the season and 0-5 in the PacWest.  Megan Kamehiro had ten points and Kayci Will got nine points and nine rebounds in the loss.

BYU–Hawaii will face Notre Dame de Namur on Monday in Laie at 5:00 pm HST.
