Seasiders Fall to Conference Leaders
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to conference co-leader Hawaii Pacific tonight 74-65 in a Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders put up a tough battle but could not overcome a 34-21 disadvantage on the boards as they fell to 4-10 for the year and 0-4 in the conference.
BYU–Hawaii led for most of the first half, but the Sea Warriors went on a 14-4 run to end the period with a 34-28 advantage. The Seasiders kept the game close throughout the second half but could never recover the lead.
Dara Tompkison netted 15 points and handed out three assists to lead the Seasiders. Mahina Gago added 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds to go with three steals for BYU–Hawaii. Zsazsa Lawson and Madison Kite each scored eight points off the bench in the loss.
Jazzmin Awa-Williams scored 18 points to lead Hawaii Pacific, now 10-4 for the season and 6-0 in the PacWest. Mana Hopkins had 17 points and Paris Gravely 11 for the Sea Warriors. Genesis Lewis had ten rebounds and eight points in the win.
BYU–Hawaii will face Chaminade on Friday in Honolulu at 5:30 pm HST.
