Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost a close game tonight falling to the UH-Hilo Vulcans.  The Seasiders enjoyed the lead for most of the first half of the game and the beginning of the second half, but the Vulcans took the lead early in the second half and went on to win the game.

The Seasiders scored 8 points in the first six minutes of the game, taking the lead just under seven minutes with 11-9. The Seasiders held the lead for the majority of the first half with the Vulcans tying the score as the half ended. The Vulcans scored early in the second half, but the Seasiders came back to lead until the Vulcans tied again with 15:11 on the clock. The Seasiders tied the score four more times, but the Vulcans ultimately took home the win.

BYU-Hawaii was led by Richelle Fenenbock’s 26 points, followed by Mahina Gago and Felisita Ika with 10 points each.  Richelle Fenenbock also led the team in three-pointers, sinking a total of six.

Natalie Mata and Hina Kimitete led the Vulcan with 16 points each. Hina Kimitete also led the team in three-pointers.

BYU-Hawaii will be facing Hawaii Pacific in Laie on January 23, 2010. The Seasiders are now 0-3 for the 2009-2010 season.
