Cold Seasiders Lose in Alaska
Anchorage, AK—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered a 67-37 defeat tonight at the hands of the nation’s fourth-ranked team as Alaska-Anchorage out-scored the Seasiders 15-3 to open the game and improved to 7-0 for the season. The Seasiders were held to just 28.3 percent from the field as they fell to 3-3 for the year.
BYU–Hawaii scored just once in the first eight minutes of the game, on a three-pointer by Mina Romito three-and-a-half minutes into the contest. It was the only three-pointer the Seasiders hit all night as they shot just 1-6 (16.7 percent) from long range and were also cold from the free throw line, hitting just 10-21 for 47.6 percent. The Seawolves also out-rebounded the Seasiders 50-35 for the game.
Mahina Gago scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Seasiders. Kristen Hartley added seven points and Richelle Fenenbock five for BYU–Hawaii.
Kelsie Gourdin scored 12 points to lead Alaska-Anchorage with Tamar Gruwell and Kiki Taylor each adding 11. Gourdin also had eight rebounds to top the Seawolves.
BYU–Hawaii will next face Alaska-Fairbanks, whom they defeated last night, tomorrow at 5:00 pm AST in Anchorage, Alaska.
