Hot Night in Alaska for Seasiders

Anchorage, AK—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks tonight, 81-54, in Anchorage, Alaska as part of the A T & T Classic.  The Seasiders, now 3-2 for the year and playing away from Laie for the first time this season, raced to a 45-28 halftime lead and cruised to the win behind 47.8 percent shooting, including 6-11 from three-point range.

Junior Richelle Fenenbock shouldered the bulk of the responsibility for the long-range marksmanship by hitting 5-7 from behind the arc as she led the Seasiders in scoring with 23 points.  Fenenbock came off the bench in the first half with the Seasiders ahead 4-2 and scored the next eight points of the game, six of them on a pair of three-pointers, to push BYU–Hawaii to a 12-2 advantage.  Later in the opening period she came back into the game and helped push the lead from 12 to 17 with seven more points to end the half with 15 points in just ten minutes of play.  For the game, she played just 19 minutes and added two steals, an assist, and a rebound to go with her scoring output.

Kristen Hartley shot 7-11 from the field and scored 19 points to join Fenenbock as the only Seasiders in double figures.  Hartley also pulled down eight rebounds to help BYU–Hawaii to a 44-35 rebounding advantage for the game.  Mahina Gago also grabbed eight caroms while scoring nine points, making five steals, and handing out four assists.  Gago also nailed a three-pointer in the game.  Dara Tompkison handed out seven assists and came up with two steals to go with four points in the win and Zsazsa Lawson came off the bench for six points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Lakeshia Levi scored 16 points to lead Alaska-Fairbanks, now 1-6 for the year, with Jessica Harrison adding 13 and Alexandra Melonson getting ten.  Levi also had seven rebounds for the Nanooks.

BYU–Hawaii will next face fourth-ranked and undefeated (6-0) Alaska-Anchorage tomorrow at 7:00 pm AST in Anchorage, Alaska.
