Men's Soccer Drops Chaminade
Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade today 4-1 in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders won comfortably despite being out-shot by the Silverswords 13-8 in the game to improve to 8-8-1 for the season and 7-5-1 in the PacWest.
Sam Akinaka scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute to stake the Seasiders to the lead. The goal was Akinaka’s eighth goal of the season. Jared Trussell scored the ultimate game-winner for BYU–Hawaii with an assist from Collin Walch in the 45th minute as the Seasiders took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Trussell’s goal was his fourth of the year.
The Silverswords helped the Seasiders out in the 52nd minute by redirecting a BYU–Hawaii shot into their own goal to increase the lead to 3-0. Adam Maciejewski followed less than a minute later with his fourth goal of the year to give BYU–Hawaii a 4-0 lead. Chaminade finally broke through on a penalty kick in the 66th minute by Keenan Ho.
BYU–Hawaii goalie Cory Cosgrave turned away five Silverswords shots to record the win and drop the Silverswords to 3-13 overall and 2-11 in the conference.
BYU–Hawaii will be in action again on Saturday, for the final time this season, against Hawaii Pacific at 3:00 pm in Kaneohe in another Pacific West Conference contest.
