Maciejewski Nets Last-Minute Game Winner
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated UH-Hilo today 1-0 in a Pacific West Conference match on a last-minute goal by senior Adam Maciejewski. On senior day, Maciejewski provided himself with the perfect sendoff in the final home game of his career by booting home the game-winner at the 89:22 mark of the match.
BYU–Hawaii dominated the opening period, out-shooting the Vulcans 9-2 before halftime, but failed to find the mark and the teams were scoreless at the intermission. UH-Hilo held the upper hand through most of the second half, out-shooting the Seasiders 10-5 in the period, but BYU–Hawaii goalie Cory Cosgrave came up with five of his six saves in the game in the second period to keep the Vulcans off the scoreboard. Maciejewski finally drilled in a shot from 15 yards out off a touch pass from Prescott McArthur to give the Seasiders the win.
The Seasiders finished with a 14-12 advantage in shots as they improved to 7-8-1 for the season and 6-5-1 in the PacWest. UH-Hilo is now 9-9 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
BYU–Hawaii will be in action again on Thursday against Chaminade at 12:00 pm in Honolulu in another Pacific West Conference contest.
