Seasiders Defeat Urban Knights

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Academy of Art 3-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders, 12-3 overall and 9-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, holding the Urban Knights without a single shot while taking 22 of their own.

Natasha Aiono opened the scoring for the Seasiders in the sixth minute of the game by booting the ball into the left corner of the net from the right side for her seventh goal of the season after taking a pass from Rachel Johnson.  Sadie Simon netted her second goal of the year in the ninth minute when she beat the goalie one-on-one after a pass from Kim Herrera.  Margaret Sekona tallied the final goal of the match on a header following a crossing pass from Tara McPartland in the 77th-minute.  It was Sekona’s fifth goal of the season.  Lauren Reich also got an assist on Sekona’s score.

Seasider goalie Becky Ploeger recorded her eighth shutout of the season for BYU–Hawaii without making a single save.  She seldom even touched the ball as most of the action took place at the other end of the field.  With the loss, Academy of Art dropped to 1-13-2 for the season and 1-7-2 in the PacWest.

BYU–Hawaii’s next game will be on November 3rd against UH-Hilo.  Game time is set for the Pacific West Conference contest at 12:00 pm in Laie.
