Mearns Sinks Argos Again

Laie, HI—Junior forward Emily Mearns continued to haunt Notre Dame de Namur today as she scored both goals as the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated the Argonauts 2-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders, 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, out-shooting the Argonauts 24-4, but Mearns was the only Seasider to put the ball into the net.

Mearns booted the ball into the upper corner of the net from well out in the 43rd minute to give BYU–Hawaii a 1-0 halftime lead.  She looped another shot just over the head of the Argonaut goalie in the 59th minute after a pass from Natasha Aiono.  Mearns’ 12th goal of the season, tops in the PacWest, gave her six goals in two games against Notre Dame de Namur this season.

Seasider goalie Becky Ploeger saved just one shot in recording her seventh shutout of the season for BYU–Hawaii as she helped drop the Argonauts to 5-9-1 for the season and 5-4-1 in the conference.

BYU–Hawaii’s next game will be on Monday against Academy of Art.  Game time is set for the Pacific West Conference contest at 1:00 pm in Laie.
