Seasiders Advance in Tournament

Mobile, AL—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis players Yuan Jia and Jenny Chin swept a pair of doubles matches at the ITA Small College Championships Division II Tournament today to move into tomorrow’s finals and Jia breezed through her lone singles match as the Seasiders advanced in the tournament.
   
In doubles play, the Seasiders began the tournament with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ola Roberts and Cristina Oliveira of Concordia (MN).  Then they powered their way past Jaclyn Walker and Dina Pavlin of Abilene Christian in the semifinals by a 6-0, 6-1 score.  Jia and Chin, the top seeds in the tournament, will meet the second-seeded team of Tereza Sykorova and Sabina Babaeradova of Francis Marion in tomorrow’s final.  The winners of that match will advance to the Small College Super Bowl which pits the winners from NCAA II, NCAA III, the NAIA, and the junior college ranks.
   
In singles play, Jia beat Darina Berkova of Northwood 6-0, 6-1 in her opening match to advance to the semifinals of the eight-player tournament that pits the eight NCAA II regional winners against each other.  She will face Senka Softic of Florida Southern in a semifinal match tomorrow with the finals to be held on Saturday morning.
