Men Win in Hilo

Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s cross country team claimed first place today at the UH-Hilo Invitational on the Big Island.  The Seasiders tallied 31 points to out-pace second-place Hawaii Pacific by 20 points.

Junior Spencer DeAvila claimed individual honors for the race, his second win in a row, to lead the Seasiders.  DeAvila clocked 20:45 over the 6K course.  Brendan McMaster came in third for BYU–Hawaii in a time of 21:21 and Brandon Krout finished in 21:37 for sixth place.  Luke Graesser clocked 21:41 for eighth place and Matthew Gulden rounded out the team scoring for the Seasiders with a 13th-place finish in 22:13.  Also finishing for BYU–Hawaii was Nathan Braswell, 21st in 22:51.

Hawaii Pacific finished with 51 points and UH-Hilo placed third in the meet with 73 points.  Victor Valley College (CA) scored 77 points for fourth place and Chaminade was fifth with 119.
   
The Seasiders’ next action will come on October 17th at the BYU–Hawaii Invitational in Laie at 8:00 am.
