Seasiders Tie Argonauts
Belmont, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team battled Notre Dame de Namur through two overtimes today before coming away with a 2-2 tie in a Pacific West Conference match. Each team scored once in each of the first two periods of the game, but neither team could punch one in the overtime.
The Seasiders opened the scoring on a Sam Akinaka header in the 25th minute. The Argonauts came back to tie things up at 1-1 on a Cole Travis header off a long ball in the 37th minute to send the teams to halftime all even. William Barber beat the Argonaut goalie with a free kick from 30 yards out in the 80th minute to put BYU–Hawaii on top 2-1, but Notre Dame de Namur tied the score again in the 82nd minute on a free kick from near midfield by Nathan Carlson that bounced its way in. Each team managed three shots in the overtime periods but none found the net.
Notre Dame de Namur out-shot the Seasiders 23-11 for the game and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks but the Seasiders stayed even on the scoreboard to run their record to 2-6-1 for the season and 1-3-1 in the PacWest. Notre Dame de Namur is now 3-8-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.
BYU–Hawaii will continue its long road trip with a game against Academy of Art on Saturday at 1:00 pm PDT in San Francisco, California.
