Seasiders Suffer Narrow Loss to National Power
Seattle, WA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team played well against the nation’s fifth-ranked team today before falling 1-0 in a non-conference match with Seattle Pacific. Seattle Pacific, which has not lost at home in 39 straight matches, had been ranked number one in the nation prior to a defeat last week at Western Washington.
The teams played a scoreless first half with the Falcons getting off 11 shots to just five for the Seasiders. BYU–Hawaii held Seattle Pacific in check until the 64th minute when Kelsey Jenkins booted in a score from 12 yards out that proved to be the game winner. The Seasiders had a couple of good scoring opportunities late in the game but couldn’t get the tying score. BYU–Hawaii finished with ten shots in the game to Seattle Pacific’s 19.
BYU–Hawaii goalie Becky Ploeger saved five shots as the Seasiders fell to 5-2 for the season. Seattle Pacific is now 11-1 overall and has shut out their opponents in all 11 wins.
BYU–Hawaii’s next game will be on Thursday against Notre Dame de Namur. Game time is set for the PacWest contest at 1:30 pm in Belmont, California.
