Seasiders Hold off Red Storm
St. George, UT–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Dixie State tonight, 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9, in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders, playing their third road match in four nights, improved to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the PacWest with the win.
Sophomore Losaline Faka’osi pounded a match-high 20 kills to lead the Seasider attack. Ane Vea put away 14 kills and Tanza Buroker and Hannah Wilkinson each knocked down ten for the Seasiders. Wilkinson and Kylee Nawahine each put up six blocks for BYU–Hawaii and Buroker notched four. Nobuko Kotoyori came up with 29 digs while Faka’osi made 25. Camille Soto recorded 14 digs and Lacey Laycock 12 as the Seasiders totaled 109 digs as a team in the match.
Katie Luna had 16 kills and Alex Shearer 12 to lead Dixie State, now 11-5 for the season and 5-2 in the PacWest. Jayci Jefress had 31 digs for the Red Storm in the loss.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night in St. George, Utah at 7:00 pm MDT.
