Seasiders Down Antelopes in Four
Phoenix, AZ–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Grand Canyon tonight, 25-23, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19, in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders improved to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the PacWest with the win while dropping the Antelopes to 9-7 for the season and 0-5 in the conference.
BYU–Hawaii overcame a 20-16 deficit in the opening game, roaring back with five straight points to take the lead and then closing out the win. The Seasiders dominated the second game before Grand Canyon rallied to take the third set. The Seasiders closed out the match by leading all the way in game four.
Freshman Kylee Nawahine knocked down 15 kills to lead the Seasiders. Losaline Faka’osi added 11 kills and 11 digs while Tanza Buroker notched nine kills and nine blocks for BYU–Hawaii. Melanie Manutai and Lacey Laycock each came up with 11 digs and Laycock served four aces in the match. Ane Vea made five blocks for the Seasiders.
Megan Toth had 14 kills to lead Grand Canyon. Laurann Durbin had 26 digs for the Antelopes in the loss.
The same two teams will play tomorrow night at 7:00 pm in Phoenix, Arizona.
