Seasiders Earn First-Place Tie

Waipio, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s cross country team tied Hawaii Pacific for first place today at the Chaminade Invitational at Central Oahu Regional Park.  Both schools finished with 35 points in the four-team competition.

Junior Spencer DeAvila claimed individual honors for the race to lead the Seasiders.  DeAvila clocked 26:26 over the 8K course.  Luke Graesser finished fifth for BYU–Hawaii in 27:02 with Brendan McMaster and Brandon Krout placing seventh and eighth in 27:17 and 27:22 respectively.  Matthew Gulden rounded out the scoring for the Seasiders with a 14th-place finish in 28:10.
   
Also finishing for BYU–Hawaii were Nathan Braswell, 18th in 29:09, Ryan Belliston, 20th in 29:54, and Thomas Hesselgesser, 21st in 30:19.
UH-Hilo placed third in the meet with 58 points and Chaminade was fourth with 87.
   
The Seasiders’ next action will come on October 10th at the UH-Hilo Invitational in Hilo at 9:00 am.
