Seasiders Lose for First Time
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season today, falling to Hawaii Pacific 2-1 in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders and Sea Warriors were tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Sea Warriors tallied early in the second half and made it hold up to get their first conference win of the season.
Hawaii Pacific scored first on a goal by Dyanne Anderson in the 32nd minute. However, the Seasiders tied the game quickly with an unassisted goal by Brenna Rhoades in the 37th minute. Amber Fuller scored the game-winner for Hawaii Pacific in the 49th minute and goalie Carianne Makino made a couple of outstanding saves late in the game to secure the win for the Sea Warriors.
BYU–Hawaii goalie Lacey Wilcox, who was a late fill-in for an ill Becky Ploeger, saved six shots for the Seasiders as BYU–Hawaii dropped to 3-1 for the season and 1-1 in the PacWest.
BYU–Hawaii’s next action will be on Saturday against UH-Hilo. Game time for the Pacific West Conference contest is set for 3:30 pm in Hilo.
