Seasiders Drop Close Match with Vulcans

Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team suffered its second 1-0 defeat of the season today, losing to UH-Hilo in the opening round of the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup Tournament.  The Seasiders, playing their first match since late August, never really got untracked against the Vulcans offensively as they fell to 0-2 for the season.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half that saw the Vulcans hold the Seasiders without a single shot in the period.  Early in the second half, Vincent Muscarella got the game’s only goal, kicking the ball in off a corner kick, to give UH-Hilo the only point of the game.

BYU–Hawaii managed to equal the Vulcans in shots in the second period, with each team getting four, but couldn’t get the answering score.  Seasider goalie Cory Cosgrave came up with five saves in the game while his Vulcan counterpart, Ivan Mercado, was called upon to make just one stop in the game.

The Seasiders will face Chaminade in Hilo tomorrow in the consolation game of the tournament at 1:00 pm HST.
