Seasiders Fall Short Against Wildcats
Ellensburg, WA–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team battled the host school tonight at the Central Washington Invitational but came up short, losing to Central Washington 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21. The Seasiders, now 3-4 for the season, matched the Wildcats statistically but couldn’t come away with the win.
The Seasiders started off with a win in a close first game that featured 15 ties. BYU–Hawaii broke away from the final tie, at 22-22, with kills by Tanza Buroker and Ashley Moeai and finished off the game on a Kylee Nawahine kill.
Game two was tied eight times, the last at 14-14, before the Wildcats pulled away to even the score at one game apiece. Central Washington sprinted out to a 10-1 lead in game three before the Seasiders roared back to within two at 17-15. The Seasider rally fizzled out, however, as the Wildcats reeled off seven straight points to secure the win.
Game four was another close one with 13 ties. BYU–Hawaii held an 18-15 lead but was out-scored 10-3 down the stretch as the Wildcats claimed the match.
Nawahine powered her way to 12 kills and Roseanne Vea blasted 11 to lead the Seasiders. Freshman Kristen Hartley came off the bench for eight kills and Tara Huckvale added seven. Ane Vea put up seven blocks with Buroker adding four. Hannah Wilkinson came off the bench to contribute four blocks in just two games. Keisha Moeai came up with 26 digs for the Seasiders with Roseanne Vea getting 15 and Lacey Laycock adding 14.
Kady Try and Erin Norris each had 16 kills to lead Central Washington, now 7-1 for the season, while Brandie Vea had 43 digs in the win.
BYU–Hawaii will next face Alaska-Anchorage in Laie on September 11th at 7:30 pm HST.
