BYU-Hawaii Loses to Nationally-Ranked Western Washington

Ellensburg, WA–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team took another loss at the Central Washington Invitational today, falling to nationally-ranked Western Washington. Although it was close, the Seasiders ultimately lost 25-23, 25-23, 25-21.  This loss drops the Seasiders to 3-2 for the season.

Western Washington, nationally-ranked 21st, scored the first four points of game one, but BYU–Hawaii fought back to a tie twice before taking a four-point lead at 17-13. Western Washington tied the score twice more before winning game one 25-23. In game two BYU–Hawaii took the first point, tied the score nine times, and then lost again by two points. In game three Western Washington maintained the lead throughout, this time winning by four.

Junior Roseanne Vea put away 12 kills to lead the Seasiders. Kylee Nawahine added seven kills for BYU–Hawaii while Melanie Manutai came up with 16 digs. Freshman Tara Huckvale blocked five attacks for the Seasiders.

Marlayna Geary had 14 kills to lead Western Washington, now 5-1 for the season.  Allison Gotz racked up 29 digs and Emily Jepsen got six blocks for the Vikings.

BYU–Hawaii will face Seattle Pacific at 3:00 pm and Central Washington at 7:00 pm PDT tomorrow to wrap up the tournament.
