Seasiders Fall to Unbeaten Seawolves

Ellensburg, WA–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team got off to a slow start today at the Central Washington Invitational and never recovered as they fell to unbeaten Sonoma State in three games, 25-11, 25-17, 25-13.  The loss drops the Seasiders to 3-1 on the new season.

Sonoma State scored the first six points of game one and refused to let the Seasiders come back into the match.  BYU–Hawaii did manage to stay close through most of game two, but the Seawolves scored four straight points to break away from a 14-14 tie and went on to win the game and, subsequently, close out the match in game three.

Freshman Kylee Nawahine put away nine kills to lead the Seasiders.  Losaline Faka’osi added six kills and 12 digs for BYU–Hawaii while Melanie Manutai came up with ten digs.  Tanza Buroker put up four blocks for the Seasiders.

Allyson Sather had 15 kills to lead Sonoma State, now 5-0 for the season.  Taylor Krenwinkel had 18 digs and Rikki Buckshnis got five blocks for the Seawolves.

BYU–Hawaii will face Western Washington at 5:00 pm today as the tournament continues.
