Alves Named to Another All-America Team

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior Lucas Alves has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America First Team.  Alves led the Seasiders to a best-ever 27-2 record this season and to the West Regional Championship game.  Earlier he was named the Daktronics NCAA II Player of the Year and to the Daktronics All-American First Team.

Alves, a 6-9 forward from Casa Branca, Brazil, led the Pacific West Conference in scoring at 19.8 points per game.  He also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game and shot 52.7 percent from the field for the season while playing just 27 minutes per game.  He was named PacWest Player of the Week three times this season and was named PacWest Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference earlier this week.  He blocked 40 shots during the year and made 25 three-pointers.

In just three seasons of play at BYU–Hawaii, Alves has already scored over 1,500 points and grabbed over 600 rebounds in his career.  Alves is the first BYU–Hawaii men’s basketball player to be named national Player of the Year.

Alves was honored earlier this season by being named as the Daktronics NCAA II West Region Player of the Year and to the West Region First-Team.  He received similar honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.  He was also named to the West Regional All-Academic First Team for the second time this season.  He was the Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year in his first season at BYU–Hawaii and the PacWest Player of the Year each of the last two seasons.
