CSUDH Defeats CWU

Laie, HI—Cal State-Dominguez Hills defeated Central Washington tonight, 87-83, in the opening game of the NCAA II West Sub-Regional Tournament in Laie.  The Toros took advantage of ice-cold first half shooting by the Wildcats to take a 32-19 halftime lead and then withstood a furious second half rally by Central Washington to hold on for the win.  Cal State-Dominguez Hills will advance to the second round and will meet host BYU–Hawaii tomorrow night.

Central Washington hit just 5-31 (16.1 percent) from the field in the opening half while the Toros countered with 12-29 (41.4 percent) to build the lead.  The Wildcats stormed back in the second half with 58.8 percent shooting and 64 points but Cal State-Dominguez Hills made just enough free throws (27-43) in the second period to stay ahead.

Five Toros scored in double figures, led by Rodney Yearby with 18, as they improved to 22-7 for the season.  Giovanne Woods scored 24 points to lead Central Washington, who end the season 18-7.
