Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii softball team dropped both ends of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with Hawaii Pacific today, losing the opening game 3-1 before falling in the second game 6-1.  The Seasiders fall to 5-11 for the year with the losses and 1-3 in the PacWest while the Sea Warriors improved to 13-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Hawaii Pacific scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings of the opening game to take a 3-0 lead.  The Seasiders came back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Kahealani Alohikea-Betham that scored Melissa Lehano, who had doubled.  BYU–Hawaii loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, but Sea Warrior pitcher Courtney Kessell induced a popup to end the threat.

The Sea Warriors scored first in the second game as well, getting a home run from Ciera Senas in the top of the third.  The Seasiders battled back to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Kaila Anderson led off the inning with a single and Kim Artiaga followed with a single.  Brooke Perriton advanced both runners with a sacrifice and Ashley Parry followed with an RBI single to score Anderson with both runners moving up on the throw home.  Lehano followed with a bouncer back to the pitcher and Artiaga tried to score on the throw to first but was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.  The Sea Warriors broke the tie with a run in the top of the sixth and added on four more in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

Ivy Sessions finished the day with three hits for the Seasiders while Lehano, Alohikea-Betham, and Artiaga each had two.

The Seasiders will face Grand Canyon in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader on Monday in Laie beginning at 1:00 pm.
