Seasiders Lose Twice
Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader today to Hawaii Pacific. The Seasiders lost a close contest in game one, 2-0, before losing the second game 9-1 in the sixth inning on the eight-run rule.
Freshman pitcher Julianne Tialavea kept the Seasiders close in the opening game by limiting the powerful Sea Warriors to just one earned run. However, the BYU–Hawaii batters were kept in check by Sea Warrior pitcher Courtney Kessell as she held the Seasiders to just three hits. Hawaii Pacific picked up a run in the first inning with the help of a BYU–Hawaii error but the Seasiders came back to load the bases on a pair of hit batters and an error in the top of the second with just one out. However, a four popout and a strikeout left the runners stranded. Lauren Fielding hit a two-out triple for BYU–Hawaii in the top of the fifth but a fly to left field left her stranded as well. Hawaii Pacific put together three singles to add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Seasiders scored their lone run of the day in the first inning of the second game when Ivy Sessions drew a two-out walk and Kahealani Alohikea-Betham followed with a double to right-center field for her team-leading eighth RBI of the season. The Sea Warriors came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and that was all Sherise Musquiz needed as she allowed just one more BYU–Hawaii hit in the game.
The Seasiders will face Hawaii Pacific again on Monday in Laie in another non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
