Seasiders Move Up to Third
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team reached a new high today in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll, climbing one spot to number three. The Seasiders, winners of 13 straight games and 16-1 overall, received 184 points in the poll to set a new high for the school in the voting. The Seasiders were ranked third on all eight ballots cast in the poll to place behind the nation’s two undefeated NCAA II teams, Findlay (OH) and LIU-C.W. Post (NY).
BYU–Hawaii stands in first place in the Pacific West Conference with a 7-0 conference mark. They are also ranked first in the NCAA II West Regional rankings. The team also continues to make its mark in the national statistical rankings. The Seasiders rank in the top ten statistically is six categories. They are second in the nation in field goal percentage at 52.5 percent, third in rebound margin (10.6), scoring (91.2), and winning percentage (94.1), fourth in assists per game (20.3), and eighth in scoring margin at 17.6. In individual statistics Trenson Akana is second nationally in three point percentage at 51.9 and J.R. Buensuceso is fourth in assists per game at 7.2 and tenth in assist/turnover ratio at 2.8.
BYU–Hawaii will face UH-Hilo Tuesday night in Hilo in a Pacific West Conference game and again on Wednesday in a non-conference encounter.
