Top Five for Seasiders

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team reached another milestone today as they moved up three spots to number five in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll.  The jump gives the Seasiders the highest ranking in school history in Division II play, surpassing the number six ranking the Seasiders received earlier this season in the December 6th poll.  The 167 points the Seasiders received in today’s voting also established a new record, eclipsing the 149 received last week.

BYU–Hawaii is also making its mark nationally in the NCAA II statistics.  The Seasiders lead the nation in field goal percentage (53.4), three-point field goal percentage (43.9), and rebound margin (12.7).  They are also fifth nationally in scoring (89.5 ppg) and won-loss percentage (91.7).  Senior guard Trenson Akana leads the nation individually in three-point percentage at 54.9.

The Seasiders won twice last week, remaining perfect in the Pacific West Conference, to improve to 11-1 for the season and 4-0 in the conference.  They will play at Hawaii Pacific on Saturday at 7:30 pm HST in a non-conference game in their lone action of the week.
