Seasiders Roll Over Argonauts

Laie, HI—The eighth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team ran away from Notre Dame de Namur tonight, 104-67, to win its eighth straight game and remain undefeated in the Pacific West Conference.  The Seasiders shot a sizzling 63.8 percent from the field against the Argonauts to improve to 4-0 in the PacWest and 11-1 overall.  The Seasiders also held a huge edge on the boards, out-rebounding Notre Dame de Namur 45-19 for the night.

BYU–Hawaii doubled the Argonauts in the first half, taking a 54-27 lead into the intermission, and led comfortably throughout the second half.  The large margin of victory allowed Seasider Head Coach Ken Wagner to empty his bench early in the game and give his starters plenty of rest.

Freshman Jet Chang came off the bench to score 20 points to lead five Seasiders in double figures.  Lucas Alves tallied 18 points on 7-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds in just 23 minutes of play for the Seasiders.  Trenson Akana drained four three-pointers and scored 13 points while junior point guard J.R. Buensuceso recorded his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and ten assists.  He also added five steals and four rebounds in just 21 minutes of play.  Nate Sims pitched in 12 points and three steals and Marques Whippy came off the bench to snare ten rebounds, score eight points, and make three steals for the Seasiders.  Nick Holladay chipped in with six points and A.J. Reilly scored five for BYU–Hawaii.

Andre Hayes and Bennie Murray each scored 12 points to lead Notre Dame de Namur, now 4-12 for the season and 0-6 in the conference.  Joshua Malloy added ten points for the Argonauts and Murray picked up eight assists.

BYU–Hawaii will face Hawaii Pacific in a non-conference game in Honolulu next Saturday at 7:30 pm.
