Seasiders Twelfth in Region
La Jolla, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s cross country team wrapped up the season with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA II West Regional meet today in California. The Seasiders scored 308 points to edge out fellow PacWest member UH-Hilo by four points.
Thomas Rivers Puzey completed the 10K course in 34:46 to claim 30th place overall for the Seasiders’ top finish. Brandon Krout took 56th in a time of 36:11 and Brendan McMaster claimed 65th place in 36:40. Matthew Belliston came in 82nd in 37:56 and Jonathan Hooke was 96th to round out the team scoring for BYU–Hawaii. Chad Nahoolewa finished 102nd in 39:47 for the Seasiders.
Chico State won the team portion of the meet with 28 points and Scott Bauhs of Chico won the individual title in 32:15.
The race was marred by a stoppage on its initial running as the bicyclist assigned to lead the race took a wrong turn midway through the race and led the leaders the wrong way. The race was rerun later in the day after the women’s race, but fatigue appeared to be a factor for many of the runners and the resultant times were slower than normal.
