BYUH Takes Second

Turtle Bay, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s cross country team took second place today at the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Championships.  The Seasiders finished with 49 points on the 8K course at Turtle Bay amidst the rain and mud to finish 17 points behind conference champion Hawaii Pacific.

Thomas Rivers Puzey completed the course in 26:38 to claim eighth place overall for the Seasiders’ top finish.  Brendan McMaster followed him in ninth place in 26:43.  Both were honored as selectees to the All-Conference First Team for finishing in the top seven runners among the qualifying teams in the conference.  Academy of Art University, the newest conference member, did not qualify for the team championship because it is not yet a full member of the NCAA.  However, a host of would-be Kenyan artists represented the school in today’s race and took five of the top seven places individually.  Edward Taragon Kibet won the individual race for the Urban Knights.
