Ah Hoy Named Interim Volleyball Coach
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University-Hawaii has named Mona Ah Hoy as interim head volleyball coach to replace the recently retired Wilfred Navalta. Ah Hoy will assume the position immediately and will coach the Seasiders in the upcoming fall season.
Navalta Named National NCAA II Coach of the Year
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s volleyball coach Wilfred Navalta was honored as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA II National Coach of the Year today. He will receive the honor at the association’s honors luncheon in Louisville, Kentucky.
Hagemeyer Named Academic All-American
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s volleyball player Lauren Hagemeyer was named today to the Capitol One Academic All-American Team for Division II of the NCAA. Hagemeyer is one of just six players nationwide, all of them seniors, to be named to the team.
Chens and Hagemeyer Named All-Tournament
Pensacola, FL–Three Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball players were honored today by being named to the NCAA II Championship All-Tournament team. Lauren Hagemeyer, Stella Chen, and Michelle Chen were all given spots on the 12-member team following the championship game which was won by Concordia-St. Paul, the team that defeated BYU-Hawaii in the semifinals.

Season Ends with Loss in National Semifinal
Pensacola, FL–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost to top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul 3-1 today in a semifinal match at the NCAA II Elite Eight to bring the Seasiders’ season to an end. BYU-Hawaii won the first set but it was all Concordia from that point on as the five-time defending NCAA II champions won 20-25, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14.
Pensacola, FL–All-American outside hitter Stella Chen hammered 20 kills, hit .389, and came up with 19 digs to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of West Texas A&M in a quarterfinal match at the NCAA II Elite Eight today. All-American setter Michelle Chen played an outstanding match as well, putting up 46 assists, serving both of the teams aces, and getting ten digs as the Seasiders advanced to tomorrow’s semifinals where they will face five-time defending champion Concordia-St. Paul.

BYU-Hawaii Headed to Elite Eight
Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team, winners of the NCAA II West Regional Tournament, will meet South Central Region winners West Texas A&M on Thursday at 2:30 pm CST in Pensacola, Florida at the NCAA II Elite Eight. The Lady Buffs, 33-4 and ranked ninth in the AVCA National Coaches Poll, were the second seed in the region and defeated fourth-seeded Angelo State to earn their trip to Pensacola.
Seasiders Take West Region Crown
Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team swept its way to the NCAA II West Regional title tonight with a 3-0 victory over Cal State-San Bernardino. The Seasiders overcame a shaky start in the first set to claim a 27-25, 25-18, 25-19 win to earn a trip to the NCAA II Elite Eight in Pensacola, Florida December 6th through 8th.

BYUH Defeats Western Washington to Advance to Regional Final
Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team played its way into the NCAA II West Region championship game tonight with a 3-1 win over Western Washington in the semifinals to improve to 23-3 for the season. The Seasiders, tied for fifth in the AVCA National Coaches Poll and the number-one seed in the tournament, hit .315 for the match to advance to tomorrow’s title match with a 25-15, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18 victory.
Seasiders Advance to Semifinals of Regional Tournament
Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated a pesky UC San Diego squad 3-1 tonight in the final match of the opening day of the NCAA II West Region Volleyball Tournament to improve to 22-3 overall for the season. The Seasiders, tied for fifth in the AVCA National Coaches Poll and the number-one seed in the tournament, overcame a ragged second set to advance to tomorrow’s regional semifinals with a 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22 victory.
Michelle Chen Named Region POY, Stella Chen and Hagemeyer Also Honored
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s volleyball team took home its share of West Region honors from the Daktronics awards today with three players being named All-Region, capped by the Region Player of the Year. Ying Chun (Michelle) Chen was named the region’s Player of the Year by the region’s sports information directors, who vote for the Daktronics team, while Shih Ting (Stella) Chen joined her on the First Team and Lauren Hagemeyer was named to the Second Team.

BYUH to Host Regional Volleyball Tournament
Laie, HI–The fifth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team received the top seed in the NCAA II West Regional Tournament today and will host the tournament November 29-December 1 at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie. The Seasiders, 21-3 for the season and champions of the Pacific West Conference with a perfect 16-0 conference mark will face the number eight seed, UC San Diego (20-10) of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), in the opening round on Thursday November 29th.

The Seasiders out-hit the Vulcans .359 to .011 to complete an unbeaten conference season.

BYU-Hawaii, who leads the nation in hitting percentage, continued its strong hitting as a team by hitting .383 for the match to improve to 17-2 overall and 12-0 in the PacWest. Chen Sets Hitting Record as Seasiders Sweep
Belmont, CA–Led by a record-setting performance by sophomore outside hitter Stella Chen, the eighth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team swept Notre Dame de Namur tonight 25-12, 25-11, 25-11 in a Pacific West Conference road match. Chen set a BYU-Hawaii record for hitting percentage (minimum 15 attacks) by knocking down 15 kills in 18 attempts with no errors for an outstanding .833 hitting percentage. BYU-Hawaii, who leads the nation in hitting percentage, continued its hot hitting as a team by hitting .538 for the match to improve to 16-2 overall and 11-0 in the PacWest.

The Seasiders won the first game but could not keep up the momentum as they lost 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 to fall to 1-2 for the season.

St. Paul, MN—The Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball team gave the nation’s top-ranked team all it could handle tonight but ultimately fell just a little short, losing to Concordia-St. Paul 3-0 at the Wildwood Lodge Volleyball Classic. The Seasiders had a chance at set point in each of the first two games before falling 27-25, 26-24, 25-21 to move to 1-1 for the season.

St. Paul, MN—The Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball team opened the season today by defeating the nation’s tenth-ranked team, Hillsdale (MI) 3-0 today at the Wildwood Lodge Volleyball Classic hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. The Seasiders, ranked 20th in the nation, were never seriously threatened as they opened the season 1-0 while dropping Hillsdale to 0-2 with the 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 victory.
