Michelle and Stella Chen, Two Others Honored

Laie, HI—Four Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball players were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) today by inclusion on the All-Region Team for the West Region.  Freshman outside hitter Stella Chen and freshman setter Michelle Chen were both named to the West Region First Team while junior outside hitter Lauren Hagemeyer and senior libero Losaline Pula were both given Honorable Mention by the AVCA.

Hagemeyer, Michelle Chen Named to All-Tournament Team

Laie, HI—Two Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball players were named to the NCAA II West Regional All-Tournament team today.   Lauren Hagemeyer and Michelle Chen were both named to the team for their performance in two tournament matches this week.

Seasiders Fall to Top Team to End Season

San Bernardino, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball season came to an end tonight with a 3-1 loss to number-one-ranked Cal State-San Bernardino in the semifinals of the NCAA II West Regional Tournament.  The Seasiders battled the undefeated Coyotes in each set but ultimately fell 25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 25-20 win to end the season with a 19-4 record.

Chen Named All-Region

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii freshman outside hitter Stella Chen was named to the Daktronics All-Region First Team this week.  The Daktronics team is nominated and voted upon by the sports information directors throughout the region.

BYUH Dominates All-PacWest Team

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball team placed three players on the Pacific West Conference All-Conference First Team, including conference Player of the Year Stella Chen, and also took home Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Co-Libero of the Year honors.  In addition to Stella Chen, Lauren Hagemeyer, and Losaline Pula made the All-Conference First Team.  Michelle Chen earned the Freshman of the Year Honor, Pula was named Co-Libero of the Year, and Head Coach Wilfred Navalta got the top coach honor from the conference coaches.

Seasiders Overcome Falcons to Open Tournament

San Bernardino, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Seattle Pacific 3-1 tonight in the opening round of the NCAA II West Regional Tournament.  The Seasiders overcame the stubborn Falcons in a 25-21, 25-21, 15-25, 30-28 win to improve to 19-3 overall and move into tomorrow night’s regional semifinal.  The win was the 16th in a row for the Seasiders.

Hagemeyer, Michelle Chen Honored

Laie, HI—Two Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball players were honored by the Pacific West Conference by being named to the PacWest Honor Roll for the last week of the season.  Junior outside hitter Lauren Hagemeyer and freshman setter Michelle Chen were honored by the conference for their play in BYU-Hawaii’s two victories last week.

Seasiders Get Tournament Fourth Seed

Laie, HI- The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s volleyball team earned its way into the NCAA II National Tournament by winning the Pacific West Conference championship and was awarded the fourth seed today as the pairings were announced for the tournament.  The Seasiders will meet fifth-seeded Seattle Pacific on Thursday at 5:00 pm in San Bernardino, California.

Seasiders Win 15th Straight, Await NCAA II Bid

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Hawaii Pacific 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match on the road.  The Seasiders swept the Sea Warriors in a 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 win to improve to end the regular season 18-3 overall and 15-1 in the PacWest.  The win was the 15th in a row for the Seasiders and was the team’s ninth consecutive sweep.

Hagemeyer Earns District Academic Honor

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s volleyball player Lauren Hagemeyer was named today to the Capitol One Academic All-District Team for District 8 of NCAA II, which is comprised of the schools in the Western part of the United States.

Seasiders Sweep Silverswords

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Chaminade 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match on the road.  The Seasiders swept the Silverswords in a 25-12, 25-8, 25-13 win to improve to 17-3 overall and 14-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Fall to Third in West Region

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball team won three matches last week, all in straight sets, yet somehow, due to the vagaries of the NCAA ranking system, managed to drop one spot from number two to number three in the NCAA II West Region in the rankings released today by the NCAA.  The regional rankings determine which teams will move on to post-season play in the division.  At season’s end, the top eight teams in the rankings will compete in the regional tournament.

Stella Chen, Two Others Honored

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball player Stella Chen was named the PacWest Volleyball Player of the Week for her play last week.  Chen was honored for her play in BYU-Hawaii’s three victories that secured the conference championship for the Seasiders.

Volleyball Wins PacWest

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Academy of Art 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match to secure the conference championship for the Seasiders.  The Seasiders swept the Urban Knights t in a 25-13, 26-24, 25-19 win to improve to 16-3 overall and 13-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Clinch Tie for Title

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Dominican 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match and in the process clinched at least a tie for conference championship.  The Seasiders swept the Penguins by hitting .336 to just .035 for visitors in a 25-15, 25-11, 25-12 win to improve to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Sweep Urban Knights

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Academy of Art 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match that held no tricks and was certainly no treat for the visiting Urban Knights.  The Seasiders swept the Urban Knights with a .254 hitting percentage to just .042 for Academy of Art in a 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 win to improve to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the PacWest.

Michelle Chen Honored Again

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball player Michelle Chen was named to the PacWest Volleyball Honor Roll for her play last week.  Chen was honored for her play in BYU-Hawaii’s victory over UH-Hilo on the road last week that kept the Seasiders at the top of the PacWest standings.

Seasiders Sweep Vulcans Again

Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated UH-Hilo 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference road match.  The Seasiders swept the Vulcans for the second time in as many weeks with a .279 hitting percentage to just .128 for UH-Hilo in a 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 win to improve to 13-3 overall and 10-1 in the PacWest.

Hagemeyer and Chen Honored

Laie, HI—Two Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball players, Michelle Chen and Lauren Hagemeyer, were named to the PacWest Volleyball Honor Roll for the week.  The Seasiders were honored for their play in BYU-Hawaii’s victory over UH-Hilo last week that kept the Seasiders at the top of the PacWest standings.

Seasiders Blast Vulcans

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team blasted UH-Hilo 3-0 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders pounded the Vulcans with a .383 hitting percentage to just .092 for UH-Hilo in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-13 win to improve to 12-3 overall and 9-1 in the PacWest.

Three on PacWest Honor Roll

Laie, HI—Three Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball players, Michelle Chen, Stella Chen, and Lauren Hagemeyer, were named to the PacWest Volleyball Honor Roll for the week.  The Seasiders were honored for their play in three BYU-Hawaii victories last week that left the Seasiders all alone at the top of the PacWest standings.

Seasiders Dominate HPU

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team avenged its only conference defeat tonight in decisive fashion, defeating Hawaii Pacific 3-0 in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders really never let the Sea Warriors into the match as they led most of the way in each set, finishing off the visitors 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 to improve to 11-3 overall and 8-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Sweep Lancers

Riverside, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Cal Baptist tonight 3-0 on the road in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders defeated the Lancers for the second night in a row, tonight by a score of 25-22, 25-19, 25-19, to improve to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Hold Off Lancers

Riverside, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team survived a pair of comebacks by Cal Baptist tonight to defeat the Lancers 3-2 on the road in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders prevailed by a score of 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 18-16 to improve to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the PacWest.

Hagemeyer Earns Player of the Week, Three Others Honored

Seasiders' Chens too Much for Antelopes

Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Grand Canyon 3-1 tonight on the road for the second night in a row in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders downed the Antelopes by a score of 25-13, 18-25, 25-17, 25-17 to improve to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Earn Road Win

Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Grand Canyon 3-1 tonight on the road in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders downed the Antelopes by a score of 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16 to improve to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Weather the Storm to Win at Dixie

St. George, UT—Junior outside hitter Lauren Hagemeyer knocked down a career-high 19 kills and senior libero Losaline Pula came up with 32 digs as the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Dixie State 3-1 tonight in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders overcame the Red Storm 28-26, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20 to improve to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Swamp Argonauts

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated Notre Dame de Namur tonight in a Pacific West Conference match, sweeping the Argonauts 3-0.  The Seasiders blasted the visitors 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the PacWest.

Both Chens Honored

Laie, HI—Two Brigham Young University Hawaii volleyball players have been named to the Pacific West Conference volleyball honor roll for their performances in the Seasiders’ two matches last week.  Stella Chen and Michelle Chen were each given the nod by the PacWest office.

Seasiders Cut Down Silverswords

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball Head Coach Wilfred Navalta threw a new wrinkle into the Seasider lineup tonight and it paid immediate dividends as the Seasiders dominated Chaminade 25-9, 25-12, 25-12 in a Pacific West Conference match.  The Seasiders hit an astonishing .418 for the match to improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. 

BYUH Loses PacWest Opener

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated Hawaii Pacific tonight in the first game, but then lost three straight to lose their Pacific West Conference opener 3-1.  The Seasiders hit .382 in taking the first game 25-16, but then hit just .114 the rest of the night as they lost the final three games 20-25, 16-25, 25-27.

Stella Chen on Honor Roll Again

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii freshman outside hitter Shih Ting (Stella) Chen has been named to the Pacific West Conference volleyball honor roll for her performance in the Seasiders’ two matches on the road against Division I foes last week.

BYUH Comes Up Short Against Tall BYU

Provo, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team ran into a much taller squad tonight in Division I BYU and came away with a 3-0 loss as a result to fall to 3-2 for the year.  The Cougars, with five players as tall as, or taller than, the tallest Seasider each getting seven or more kills, defeated BYU-Hawaii 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.

Seasiders Fall to DI Utah Valley on the Road

Orem, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season tonight, dropping a 3-0 decision to Division I Utah Valley on the road.  The Seasiders kept things close, though, losing 25-19, 25-21, 25-20 to fall to 3-1 for the season.

Stella Chen on PacWest Honor Roll

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii freshman outside hitter Shih Ting (Stella) Chen has been named to the Pacific West Conference volleyball honor roll for her performance in the Seasiders’ win last week over Division I Weber State on the road.

Stella Chen Earns First PacWest Player of the Week Award

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii freshman outside hitter Shih Ting (Stella) Chen has been honored as the first Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for her performance in the Seasiders’ matches in the Alaska-Hawaii Challenge.  Chen led the Seasiders to a pair of wins in the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play.

Seasiders Top Division I Foe on the Road

Ogden, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team rallied back from two games down to defeat Division I Weber State 3-2 tonight on the road in a non-conference match.  The Seasiders overcame the Wildcats 24-26, 18-25, 25-18, 25-16, 15-8 to improve to 3-0 for the season.

Seasiders Defeat Nanooks

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks 3-1 tonight in the final match of the Alaska-Hawaii Challenge Tournament.  Freshman Shih Ting (Stella) Chen hammered 25 kills to lead the Seasiders to the 25-21, 26-28, 25-12, 25-17 win as BYU-Hawaii improved to 2-0 for the season.

Seasiders Open with Win

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team opened the season today with a 3-0 win over Alaska-Anchorage in the first game of the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge Tournament.  The Seasiders swept the match 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 by using a mix of veterans and newcomers that combined to hit .333 for the match.

Seasiders Picked to Win Conference

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team was given the nod by the Pacific West Conference coaches as the pre-season favorite to claim the conference crown.  The Seasiders received six of the ten first place votes and 94 points to outpace second place Cal Baptist.
