Seasider Duo Withdraws for Sabbath

Mobile, AL—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis players Yuan Jia and Jenny Chin withdrew from the Small College Superbowl today at the ITA Small College Championships in order to avoid a possible conflict with Sunday play.  The Seasiders allowed Tereza Sykorova and Sabina Babaeradova of Francis Marion, whom the BYU–Hawaii duo defeated in the finals of the NCAA II portion of the tournament, to represent the division in the Superbowl competition.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which operates BYU–Hawaii, recognizes Sunday as a holy Sabbath day and the school does not participate in any athletic competition on that day of the week.  The Superbowl finals are held on Sunday.
