Laie, HI—Two Brigham Young University Hawaii’s women’s soccer players have been honored by being named to the Daktronics NCAA II West Region Second Team for their outstanding play during the just-completed season. Junior forward Emily Mearns and junior midfielder Natasha Aiono, both First-Team All-Pacific West Conference performers, were recognized by the region’s sports information directors with the Daktronics honors.
Five Seasiders Earn All-Conference Honors
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s women’s soccer team landed five players on the Pacific West Conference All-Conference teams announced this week. Two Seasiders received First-Team accolades while three others were named to the conference second team.
Ploeger Gets Player of the Week Honor
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii goalie Becky Ploeger was named the Pacific West Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the final week of the season. She is the only Seasider to receive the award this past season despite the team’s second-place finish in the conference standings.
Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team wrapped up a successful season today with a 3-1 victory over Hawaii Pacific in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders set a new school record with their 15th win of the season, breaking the mark set last year in their conference championship season. BYU–Hawaii finished this season with a 15-3 mark overall and a 12-2 PacWest record, good for second place in the conference.
Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Chaminade 4-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders, 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, holding the Silverswords without a single shot while blasting 36 of their own.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated UH-Hilo 1-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match played on a wet field in Laie. The Seasiders, 13-3 overall and 10-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, out-shooting the Vulcans 23-2, but could only get one of the shots to go in.
McCullough Earns Academic Honor
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii sophomore defender Lauran McCullough has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Team for Region VIII which covers the Western United States. McCullough, from Kennewick, Washington, is the only Pacific West Conference player to be honored on either the first or second teams, which are comprised of players from NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA institutions in the geographical area of Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho.
Seasiders Defeat Urban Knights
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Academy of Art 3-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders, 12-3 overall and 9-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, holding the Urban Knights without a single shot while taking 22 of their own.
Laie, HI—Junior forward Emily Mearns continued to haunt Notre Dame de Namur today as she scored both goals as the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated the Argonauts 2-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders, 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, out-shooting the Argonauts 24-4, but Mearns was the only Seasider to put the ball into the net.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Dominican 3-0 today in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders, 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the PacWest, dominated the game, out-shooting the Penguins 18-6.
Laie, HI—In a game worthy of conference leaders, the second-place Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team came up just short against conference leader Dixie State today, falling 1-0 in a classic Pacific West Conference battle. The Seasiders out-shot the visiting Red Storm by one, 15-14, but Dixie’s Carly Haycock got the shot that counted to give the visitors the win.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Birmingham Southern 2-0 today in a non-conference match. The Seasiders scored both goals early in the first half and improved to 9-2 overall with the win.
San Rafael, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Dominican (CA) 1-0 today on the road in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders won despite being out-shot by the Penguins 13-6 and improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the PacWest.
San Francisco, CA—Five different players scored as the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Academy of Art 5-0 today on the road in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders dominated the action, out-shooting the Urban Knights 30-4, in improving to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the PacWest.
Belmont, CA—Junior forward Emily Mearns scored four goals, including the game-winner, as the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Notre Dame de Namur 5-3 today in a Pacific West Conference match. Mearns, the Seasiders’ leading scorer this season, tallied once in the first half to help stake the Seasiders, now 6-2 for the season and 4-1 in the PacWest, to a 2-1 halftime advantage, and then notched a hat trick in the second half to spark the victory.
Seasiders Suffer Narrow Loss to National Power
Seattle, WA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team played well against the nation’s fifth-ranked team today before falling 1-0 in a non-conference match with Seattle Pacific. Seattle Pacific, which has not lost at home in 39 straight matches, had been ranked number one in the nation prior to a defeat last week at Western Washington.
Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team scored a tough, 1-0 win over Grand Canyon today in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders’ Brenna Rhoades drilled home the only goal of the game with a kick from the right side in 74th minute of the contest to boost BYU–Hawaii to the win.
Mearns Scores Twice to Spark Win
Hilo, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Emily Mearns, the leading scorer in the Pacific West Conference, scored two goals to lead the Seasider women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over UH-Hilo today.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season today, falling to Hawaii Pacific 2-1 in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders and Sea Warriors were tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Sea Warriors tallied early in the second half and made it hold up to get their first conference win of the season.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team, seeing its first action since the 19th of August, shook off the rust in the second half today, scoring seven times in the period to run away to a 9-0 victory over Chaminade in the Pacific West Conference opener for both schools. The Seasiders dominated the game from the outset, putting up 39 shots for the game while holding the Silverswords without a single shot.
Laie, HI—Junior forward Emily Mearns scored two goals within a two-minute period in the first half to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team to a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over Westminster (UT) today. Sophomore Margaret Sekona assisted on each of Mearns’ goals as the Seasiders improved to 2-0 for the season.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team opened the new season with a 3-0 victory over Upper Iowa today, making a winner out of rookie Head Coach Carolyn Theurer in her debut at the helm of the Seasiders. BYU–Hawaii dominated the action throughout the match, out-shooting the visiting Peacocks 20-2, and tallied twice in the opening 16 minutes to take control of the game.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii Athletic Department has named Carolyn Theurer as the new head coach of the women’s soccer team. She replaces William Mahoni who coached one season and is moving to the new position of Director of Soccer Operations at the Laie school.
