Two Seasiders Honored

Laie, HI—Two Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball players were honored by the Pacific West Conference with Second-Team All-Conference accolades this week.  Junior Richelle Fenenbock and sophomore Dara Tompkison earned the honors for their play this past season.

Seasiders Finish with Loss

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team completed the season tonight with a loss to conference champion Hawaii Pacific, 88-61 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The game was originally scheduled to be played February 27th but was postponed due to a tsunami warning following the earthquake in Chile.  With tonight’s loss the Seasiders finish with a 9-17 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the PacWest.

Seasiders Fall to Argonauts

Belmont, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered a tough road loss tonight, losing to Notre Dame de Namur 62-58 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders, now 9-16 for the season and 5-10 in the PacWest, led early before falling behind by nine at the half and could never quite catch up to the Argonauts.

BYUH Loses on Road

San Francisco, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered a road loss tonight, losing to Academy of Art 66-49 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders, now 9-15 for the season and 5-9 in the PacWest, ran into a hot-shooting Urban Knights squad that hit 59.1 percent from the field while the Seasiders experienced an off night at the free throw line, hitting just 6-18 (33.3 percent) from the stripe.

Seasiders Lose on the Road

San Rafael, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered defeat on the road tonight, losing to Dominican 74-58 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders, now 9-14 for the season and 5-8 in the PacWest, fell behind 10-3 early in the contest and spent the rest of the game trying unsuccessfully to catch up to the Penguins.

Drew Hits Gamewinner as Seasiders Top Vulcans

Laie, HI—Junior Zori Drew banked in a short jumper as she was fouled with seven seconds to play to tie the game and then swished the free throw to give the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team a thrilling 71-70 victory over UH-Hilo tonight in a Pacific West Conference game.  Drew, who sparked the Seasiders with a career-high 15 points off the bench scored the last five points for BYU–Hawaii as the Seasiders improved to 9-13 for the season and 5-7 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Fall to Red Storm

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Dixie State squad tonight and fell to the Red Storm 96-74 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders attempted four more field goals in the game than the visitors but Dixie State shot 59 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from the three-point line to drop BYU–Hawaii to 8-13 for the season and 4-7 in the PacWest.

BYUH Falls to Antelopes

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team had their three-game winning streak interrupted tonight by conference power Grand Canyon as the Seasiders fell to the Antelopes 75-58 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders shot just 30.5 percent from the field while Grand Canyon hit 52.2 percent to drop BYU–Hawaii to 8-12 for the season and 4-6 in the PacWest.

Third Straight Win for Seasiders

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team picked up its third win in a row tonight, defeating Chaminade 90-68 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders scored the first seven points of the game, raced out to an early 18-5 lead, and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the night to improve to 8-11 for the season and 4-5 in the PacWest.

BYUH Gets Second Win in a Row

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team won its second game in a row tonight, defeating Dominican 78-64 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders pulled away from a 27-27 halftime by hitting 27-30 free throws in the second half to pull away from the Penguins and improve to 7-11 for the season and 3-5 in the PacWest.

BYUH Overcomes Urban Knights for Second Conference Win

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team picked up its second conference win of the season tonight, defeating Academy of Art 80-75 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders pulled away from a 35-35 halftime tie and hit clutch free throws down the stretch to hold off the Urban Knights and improve to 6-11 for the season and 2-5 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Lose to Argonauts

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to Notre Dame de Namur tonight, 65-57, in Pacific West Conference action.  The Seasiders and Argonauts were tied at halftime but Notre Dame de Namur turned up the defensive intensity in the second half and held BYU–Hawaii to just six field goals after intermission to pull away.

Seasiders Get First Conference Win

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team won a hard-fought game against Chaminade tonight, 54-51, in Pacific West Conference action.  The Seasiders parlayed a 45-31 advantage on the boards to hold off the Silverswords on the road and improved to 5-10 for the year and 1-4 in the conference.

Seasiders Fall to Conference Leaders

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to conference co-leader Hawaii Pacific tonight 74-65 in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders put up a tough battle but could not overcome a 34-21 disadvantage on the boards as they fell to 4-10 for the year and 0-4 in the conference.

Seasiders Lose to Vulcans

Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost a close game tonight falling to the UH-Hilo Vulcans.  The Seasiders enjoyed the lead for most of the first half of the game and the beginning of the second half, but the Vulcans took the lead early in the second half and went on to win the game.

BYUH Loses to Grand Canyon

Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to Grand Canyon tonight, 72-54, in a Pacific West Conference game.  The Seasiders fell behind 6-0 to start the game and trailed 38-25 at halftime.  BYU–Hawaii cut the deficit to eight points early in the second half but Grand Canyon quickly built the lead back to double digits and cruised to the win.

Seasiders Open PacWest Play with Loss

St. George, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered from an extremely cold shooting night and fell to Dixie State tonight in their Pacific West Conference opener on the road, 77-35. The Seasiders shot just 31.1 percent from the field, ten percent from the three-point line, and 42.9 percent from the free throw line as the fell to 4-7 for the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Slow Start Proves Costly

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered through a slow start today in each half of the game and paid the price with a 73-57 loss to 16th-ranked West Texas A&M.  The Seasiders were out-scored 11-0 to open the game and 5-0 to open the second half and the 16-point margin proved to be the final margin of the game.

Seasiders Fall to Hot-Shooting Vulcans

Kealakekua, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team ran into a hot-shooting UH-Hilo squad tonight on the road that resulted in a 71-52 loss in a non-conference game.  The host Vulcans shot 65 percent from the field for the game while holding the Seasiders to just 31.5 percent.

Seasiders Lose to Chaminade

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered a heart-breaking defeat tonight on the road, losing to Chaminade 53-52 on a last-gasp three-pointer in a non-conference game.  The Seasiders took the lead with 23 seconds to play on a pair of free throws by Kristen Hartley, but the Silverswords Kellene Costello hit her third three-pointer of the night with just seconds to play to drop the Seasiders to 4-4 for the season.

Seasiders Down Nanooks Again

Anchorage, AK—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks tonight for the second time in three nights, 61-48, in Anchorage, Alaska as part of the A T & T Classic.  The Seasiders, now 4-3 for the year, opened up a 32-21 halftime lead and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.

Cold Seasiders Lose in Alaska

Anchorage, AK—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team suffered a 67-37 defeat tonight at the hands of the nation’s fourth-ranked team as Alaska-Anchorage out-scored the Seasiders 15-3 to open the game and improved to 7-0 for the season.  The Seasiders were held to just 28.3 percent from the field as they fell to 3-3 for the year.

Hot Night in Alaska for Seasiders

Anchorage, AK—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks tonight, 81-54, in Anchorage, Alaska as part of the A T & T Classic.  The Seasiders, now 3-2 for the year and playing away from Laie for the first time this season, raced to a 45-28 halftime lead and cruised to the win behind 47.8 percent shooting, including 6-11 from three-point range.

Gago Gets Player of the Week Honor

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Mahina Gago has been named the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the past week.  Gago received the week’s award based on her performance in the Hukilau Invitational this past weekend that saw the Seasiders earn their first win ever against a Division I school when they defeated San Francisco 69-61 on Saturday.

Seasiders Top DI Opponent

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team scored a landmark victory over the University of San Francisco today in the final game of the Hukilau Invitational Tournament in Laie.  The Seasiders upended the Dons 69-61 for BYU–Hawaii’s first victory over a Division I opponent since the school added women’s basketball to start the 2006-07 season.

Seasiders Lose in Hukilau Tournament

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to Hawaii today, 76-46, on the opening day of the Hukilau Invitational in Laie.  The Seasiders fell behind early and suffered from an off night shooting the ball to fall to 1-2 for the season.

BYUH Falls to HPU

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to Hawaii Pacific tonight, 74-63, in a non-conference game as part of the Hawaii DII Tournament taking place in Laie.  The Seasiders got off to a slow start, trailing 34-11 late in the first half, and never recovered in falling to 1-1 for the season.

Seasiders Open with Win

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team opened the season with a non-conference win over UH-Hilo as part of the Hawaii DII Tournament taking place in Laie.  The Seasiders overcame a four-point halftime deficit with a strong shooting performance in the second half to defeat the Vulcans 68-59.

Women Lose Exhibition Game

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team fell just short, 73-68, in an exhibition matchup with D.One tonight as part of the American Money Group Asia-Pacific Basketball Tournament in Laie.  The Seasiders held their own with the ex-collegians throughout the contest but were done in by a poor shooting night as they hit just 35.8 percent from the field and only 23.1 percent from three-point range.
