Maciejewski earned First Team honors while Sam Akinaka and Collin Walch each garnered Second-Team honors for the Seasiders. Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team came up just short in its last match of the season today, falling to Hawaii Pacific 2-1 in double overtime in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders finish the season with an overall record of 8-9-1 and a 7-6-1 mark in the PacWest. Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade today 4-1 in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders won comfortably despite being out-shot by the Silverswords 13-8 in the game to improve to 8-8-1 for the season and 7-5-1 in the PacWest. Maciejewski Nets Last-Minute Game Winner Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated UH-Hilo today 1-0 in a Pacific West Conference match on a last-minute goal by senior Adam Maciejewski. On senior day, Maciejewski provided himself with the perfect sendoff in the final home game of his career by booting home the game-winner at the 89:22 mark of the match. Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team Academy of Art today 3-2 in overtime in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders led 2-0 at halftime only to see the Urban Knights rally to tie the match and force the overtime period. Senior Sam Akinaka’s seventh goal of the season just 2:16 into the overtime gave the Seasiders the win. The Seasiders trailed 2-0 at halftime but rallied in the second half before falling short. The win improved the Seasiders’ record to 5-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference. The Pacific West Conference loss dropped the Seasiders to 4-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference. San Rafael, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team picked up its second win a row today with a 2-1 victory over Dominican in a Pacific West Conference match on the road. The Seasiders tallied twice early in the match and held off the Penguins the rest of the way to improve to 4-6-1 for the season and 3-3-1 in the PacWest. San Francisco, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Academy of Art today 1-0 in a Pacific West Conference match on the road. Sam Akinaka scored in the 54th minute to break a scoreless tie as the Seasiders improved to 3-6-1 for the season and 2-3-1 in the PacWest. Belmont, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team battled Notre Dame de Namur through two overtimes today before coming away with a 2-2 tie in a Pacific West Conference match. Each team scored once in each of the first two periods of the game, but neither team could punch one in the overtime. Seaside, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost a tough road match today, falling 1-0 to Cal State-Monterey Bay in a non-conference game. The Seasiders managed just one shot on goal in each half and just one corner kick as they struggled to get anything going offensively. Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost a heart-breaker today on the road, falling 1-0 to Grand Canyon in double overtime in a Pacific West Conference match. The Antelopes’ Kyle Ciliento got the only score of the game in the 103rd minute of the contest. Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to the UH-Hilo Vulcans today. Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to Hawaii Pacific today, 4-0, in a Pacific West Conference match in Laie. The Seasiders battled the Sea Warriors evenly for the first half, thanks to some outstanding saves by goalie Cory Cosgrave, but couldn’t stop the Sea Warriors in the second half. Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade today, 2-1, in the Pacific West Conference opener for both teams. The Seasiders, who defeated the Silverswords a week ago in the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup, got off to a 2-0 lead in today’s match and held off a Chaminade rally to improve to 2-2 for the season and 1-0 in the PacWest. Hilo, HI—Junior transfer Chris Wood notched a hat trick and assisted on the winning goal today to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team to its first win of the season today as the Seasiders defeated Chaminade 5-3 in the consolation game of the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup Tournament. Senior Sam Akinaka scored twice, including the game-winner, for BYU–Hawaii as the Seasiders improved to 1-2 for the season. Seasiders Drop Close Match with Vulcans Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team suffered its second 1-0 defeat of the season today, losing to UH-Hilo in the opening round of the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup Tournament. The Seasiders, playing their first match since late August, never really got untracked against the Vulcans offensively as they fell to 0-2 for the season. Men Suffer Tough Loss in Opener Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team fired 13 more shots on goal today than visiting Upper Iowa, but couldn’t manage to find the net as the Seasiders lost their season opener today, 1-0, to the Peacocks. BYU–Hawaii out-shot Upper Iowa 19-6 and had many golden opportunities to score for rookie Head Coach Michael Akinaka, but fell short in the end. Laie, HI—Brigham Young University-Hawaii has named former Seasider soccer player and assistant coach Michael Akinaka as the Head Coach for its men’s soccer team. Akinaka, who was a Pacific West Conference Second Team midfielder for the Seasiders in 2006 and All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2007, spent last season as an assistant coach for BYU–Hawaii.
