Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii senior Lucas Alves has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA II West Region All-Region Second Team. Alves, who was earlier accorded the same honor by Daktronics, received the honor despite missing the first eight games of the season and recovering from off-season knee surgery.
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii senior Lucas Alves has been named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the final week of the season. Alves led the Seasiders to a win over Hawaii Pacific that clinched a tie for the conference title and then helped BYU–Hawaii reach the NCAA II West Regional final for the third consecutive season.
Four Seasiders Named All-Conference
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii senior Lucas Alves has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive year and to the All-Conference First Team for the fourth consecutive season. Junior Marques Whippy also received First Team honors from the conference while sophomore Jet Chang and senior J.R. Buensuceso were both named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Seasider Rally Falls Short in Regional Final
Bellingham, WA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team’s season came to an end at the NCAA II West Regional Championship game for the third year in a row as Cal Poly Pomona defeated the Seasiders 78-75 tonight in the title game. The Seasiders, who finish the season at 22-6, fell behind 36-25 at halftime but roared back to take a three-point lead late in the game. However, Cal Poly Pomona refused to wilt under the pressure and came back to take the game and advance to the Elite Eight for the second year in a row.
Seasiders Run Over Coyotes to Advance to Regional Final
Bellingham, WA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team used a 12-0 run at the end of the first half to establish a 17-point cushion and went on to defeat 2nd-seeded Cal State-San Bernardino 77-58 tonight in the semifinals of the NCAA II West Regional Tournament. The Seasiders, who advanced to the regional final for the third consecutive season, will face Cal Poly Pomona, who defeated BYU–Hawaii in last year’s regional championship game, in Monday’s regional title game.
Seasiders Advance in NCAA II Tournament
Bellingham, WA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated 18th-ranked Seattle Pacific 76-72 today in the first round of the NCAA II West Regional Tournament. The Seasiders won, despite having their poorest shooting night of the season, behind a pair of double-doubles from their senior big men, Lucas Alves and Garrett Sandberg, and will face Cal State-San Bernardino in tomorrow’s semifinals.

Seasiders to Face Seattle Pacific in Tourney Opener
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team will play Seattle Pacific (22-5) in the opening round of the NCAA II West Regional Tournament on Friday. The Seasiders received the sixth seed and will face the third-seeded Falcons in the tournament’s opening game at 12:30 pm PST in Bellingham, Washington.
Seasiders Claim Share of Title with Win Over HPU
Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team won a share of the Pacific West Conference championship and the automatic qualifier to the NCAA II West Regional Tournament tonight by defeating Hawaii Pacific 100-84 in the regular season finale for both teams. The game was originally scheduled to be played on February 27th but was postponed due to the tsunami warning in Hawaii that was a result of the earthquake in Chile.
Alves Named Player of the Week
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii senior Lucas Alves has been named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the past week. Alves led the Seasiders to three road wins in as many games this past week by averaging 21.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He is the fourth Seasider honored by the conference this season as Player of the Week.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team is going to the dance again but they don’t know who they will be dancing with yet. The Seasiders received a bid today to the NCAA II West Regional Tournament that will be held at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington beginning Friday and running through Monday. However, the Seasiders will not know their opponent for the opening round until after tomorrow night’s game with Hawaii Pacific that was postponed from February 27th due to the tsunami warning that day.
Belmont, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team raced out to a 40-10 lead and then coasted to an 81-55 victory over Notre Dame de Namur tonight in a Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders picked up their 12th straight win as they improved to 19-5 for the season and 13-2 in the PacWest.
San Francisco, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team went on an 11-point run late in the first half to break open a close game and then cruised to a 99-69 victory over Academy of Art tonight in a Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders led 27-24 before the run, but opened up the lead to 38-24 behind eight points by Jet Chang and BYU–Hawaii was not threatened again as they improved to 18-5 for the season and 12-2 in the PacWest.

San Rafael, CA—Senior Lucas Alves scored 18 of his 28 points in the first half to spark the Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team to a 44-31 halftime lead and the Seasiders went on to defeat Dominican tonight, 90-81, in a Pacific West Conference game. Alves, who shot 11-14 from the field in the game, scored the first eight points for the Seasiders as BYU–Hawaii improved to 17-5 for the season and 11-2 in the PacWest.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team overcame a poor first-half shooting performance to defeat UH-Hilo 75-69 tonight in a Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders, who came into the game as the nation’s best shooting team in Division II, shot just 37.9 percent from the field in the opening period but came back in the second half to hit 58.6 percent to finish the game at 48.3 percent as they improved to 16-5 for the season and 10-2 in the PacWest.

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior Marques Whippy has been named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the past week. Whippy led the Seasiders to two wins in as many games this past week by averaging 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He is the third Seasider honored by the conference this season as Player of the Week.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team placed six players in double figures in scoring tonight as the Seasiders defeated Dixie State 91-74 in an important Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders shot 54.8 percent from the field as they improved to 15-5 for the season and 9-2 in the PacWest and tied Dixie State for second place in the conference behind 10-1 Hawaii Pacific.

The Seasiders shot 60.7 percent from the field, 53.3 percent from three-point range, and 85 percent from the free throw line to win going away as they improved to 14-5 for the season and 8-2 in the PacWest.

Chang, who broke his arm in a December win over Hawaii Pacific and was expected to miss the rest of the season, started the game tonight against the Silverswords and scored 20 points as the Seasiders improved to 13-5 for the season and 7-2 in the PacWest.

The Seasiders shot 76 percent (19-25) from the field and 81.8 percent (9-11) from three-point range in the opening period to take a 51-30 halftime lead and then held the Argonauts without a field goal for over seven minutes to start the second half as they increased the lead to 66-31 and cruised to the win to improve to 10-5 for the season and 4-2 in the PacWest.
Alves, Reilly Spark Win Over Chaminade
Honolulu, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Lucas Alves showed some of the form that made him the Daktronics NCAA II Player of the Year last year as he scored 15 points in just 22 minutes of play to lead the Seasiders to an 80-74 road win over Chaminade in Pacific West Conference action tonight. A.J. Reilly matched Alves’ 15 points and hit eight consecutive clutch free throws down the stretch as the Seasiders improved to 9-5 for the season and 3-2 in the PacWest.

Reilly banked in a short jumper with .1 second remaining to give the Seasiders a wild 89-88 win over Hawaii Pacific tonight in Pacific West Conference men’s basketball action. Reilly’s heroics capped a stunning final minute of the game and gave new life to the Seasiders in the PacWest Conference race.
Vulcans Beat Seasiders at the Buzzer
Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team lost a very close game tonight falling to the UH-Hilo Vulcans 87-86. The Seasiders had the lead early on in the game, maintained it for most of the first and second half, and then lost to a last second shot by the Vulcans.
Whippy Leads Seasiders Over Antelopes
Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team got back on the winning track tonight as they defeated Grand Canyon on the road 69-64 in a Pacific West Conference game. The Seasiders overcame a poor-shooting first half and a 13-point Grand Canyon lead to improve to 7-4 for the season and 1-1 in the PacWest.
St. George, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team opened Pacific West Conference play with a road loss at Dixie State, 86-78, tonight. The Seasiders suffered their second straight defeat to fall to 6-4 for the season and are 0-1 in the PacWest.
Laie, HI—The 18th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team failed to hold a 13-point second half lead tonight and lost to Chapman 76-70 in overtime in a non-conference game. The Seasiders led 57-44 with eight minutes to play and still had a ten-point margin at 64-54 with under three minutes to go in regulation, but fell victim to Chapman’s hot shooting and a pair of costly turnovers down the stretch as the Panthers rallied force the overtime and then held the Seasiders scoreless from the field in the extra period to get the win.

Shorthanded Seasiders Lose Close One
Honolulu, HI—Despite playing without two star players, the seventh-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team put up a battle against Chaminade tonight in the championship game of the Hawaii Challenge hosted by Chaminade University before succumbing 87-81. The Seasiders were playing without national Player of the Year Lucas Alves and leading scorer and 2008-09 Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year Jet Chang, who are both injured.
Honolulu, HI—The seventh-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team went to the bench for help tonight and got it in a big way as the reserves scored 59 points to lead the Seasiders to a 92-75 win over Hawaii Pacific in a non-conference game at the Hawaii Challenge hosted by Chaminade University. Seasiders Fall to 18th-Ranked Seattle Pacific
Seattle, WA—The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team lost to 18th-ranked Seattle Pacific 78-72 tonight in the final game of the Seattle Pacific Tournament. The Seasiders fell behind 44-31 at the half but rallied to tie the game three times in the second half but could not take the lead and fell to 4-1 for the season.

Monmouth, OR—The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team shot a sizzling 63.3 percent from the field in each half tonight to earn a 94-86 non-conference road win over Western Oregon. The Seasiders, now 3-0 for the season, hit 19 of 30 shots in each period and took a 47-41 halftime lead before keeping the Wolves at bay throughout the second half to come away with the win.

Seasiders Are Still Ranked Number One

It marks the first time in the school’s basketball history that the Seasiders have been ranked number one. The second, third, and fourth ranked teams lost early in the season and have dropped below their original ranking.
Seasiders Roll at Asia-Pacific
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team flew out to a 63-26 halftime lead and coasted to a 101-64 win tonight over China University of Mining and Technology in the final game of the American Money Group Asia-Pacific Basketball Tournament in Laie. The Seasiders shot 66.7 (26-39) percent from the field and 77.8 (7-9) percent from beyond the three-point line in the opening stanza to put the game out of reach early.

The Seasiders led 47-21 and were never seriously threatened in their opening game of the international friendship tournament held annually in the Cannon Center on the BYU–Hawaii campus.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated the Alumni tonight 108-89 in an exhibition game in the Cannon Center on campus. The Seasiders out-scored the former stars 50-33 in the opening half and were never threatened as they cruised to the win.
Seasiders Lose Exhibition Game
Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team got off to a shaky start and never fully recovered tonight as they lost an exhibition game to Division I University of Hawaii, 83-69. The Seasiders, playing for the first time this year, shot just 28.1 percent from the field in the opening half and only 36.8 percent for the game.
