Alves Named to Another All-America Team

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior Lucas Alves has been named to
the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America First Team. 
Alves led the Seasiders to a best-ever 27-2 record this season and to
the West Regional Championship game.  Earlier he was named the
Daktronics NCAA II Player of the Year and to the Daktronics
All-American First Team.

 

Alves, Five Others Honored by Conference

Laie, HI—Brigham Young
University Hawaii junior forward Lucas Alves has been named the Pacific
West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year for the second year
in a row.  Alves heads the PacWest All-Conference First Team released
today.  He was named earlier this week as the Daktronics NCAA II Player
of the Year and a Daktronics First Team All-American and was also
honored on the All-Region All-Academic Team.

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior Lucas Alves has been named
the Daktronics NCAA II National Player of the Year and to the
All-America First Team.  Alves led the Seasiders to a best-ever 27-2
record this season and to the West Regional Championship game.

Seasiders' Season Ends with Heartbreaking Loss

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team’s dream
season came to an abrupt end tonight when Cal Poly Pomona’s Larry
Gordon scored on a put back with three seconds to play to give the
third-seeded Broncos a 59-58 win over the top-seeded Seasiders in the
NCAA II West Regional Final.

Gordon’s heroics capped a 16-2 run to end the game that saw the Broncos overcome a 56-43 deficit with 7:13 to play.

 

Alves Gets Second All-Region Honor

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior forward Lucas Alves has been
named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) West
Region All-Region First Team.  The West Region comprises teams from the
Pacific West Conference, the California Collegiate Athletic
Association, and the Great Northwest Conference.

 

NCAA Forces Change in Regional Tournament

Laie, HI—In a move destined to disappoint Brigham Young University Hawaii
men’s basketball fans, the NCAA has dictated a change in the NCAA II
West Regional Tournament.  Accordingly, the regional championship game
originally scheduled for Tuesday night at the Cannon Activities Center
in Laie will now be moved to Wednesday night at the Cannon Center at
7:30 pm barring, of course, any further directives from the NCAA.

 

Seasiders Advance to Regional Final

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated
Cal State-Dominguez Hills tonight, 84-71, in the semifinals of the NCAA
II West Sub-Regional in Laie.  West Region Player of the Year Lucas
Alves sparked BYU–Hawaii with 27 points and nine rebounds as the
3rd-ranked Seasiders improved to 27-1 and advanced to the regional
finals for the second straight year where they will play Cal Poly
Pomona either Tuesday or Wednesday night in Laie for the right to
advance to the Elite Eight in Springfield, Massachusetts.

 

Seasiders Cut Down Lumberjacks

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated
Humboldt State tonight, 98-84, in the opening round of the NCAA II West
Sub-Regional in Laie.  The Seasiders trailed only after the first
basket of the game in improving to 26-1 and advancing to the second
round where they will play Cal State-Dominguez Hills tomorrow night.

 

BYU Television to Carry Seasider Regional Games

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s men’s basketball games in the NCAA
II West Regional Tournament will be carried live on BYU Television the
school announced today.  The Seasiders, champions of the Pacific West
Conference, will host a four-team sub-regional on Friday and Saturday
and will face seventh-seeded Humboldt State (20-11) in the opening
round on Friday at 7:30 pm in the Cannon Activities Center on the
BYU–Hawaii campus.

Seasiders to Host Sub-Regional

Laie, HI—As expected, the third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s
basketball team received the number one seed in the NCAA II West
Regional Tournament field announced today by the NCAA.  The Seasiders,
champions of the Pacific West Conference, will host a four-team
sub-regional on Friday and Saturday and will face seventh-seeded
Humboldt State (20-11) in the opening round on Friday at 7:30 pm in the
Cannon Activities Center on the BYU–Hawaii campus.

 

Seasiders Complete Season at 25-1, Await Regional Tournament

Laie, HI—The Brigham
Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team completed the best
regular season in school history tonight by defeating Hawaii Pacific
107-70 in a non-conference game on Senior Night.  The Seasiders
dominated the game from start to finish to improve to 25-1 for the
season and a perfect 12-0 in the Pacific West Conference.  BYU–Hawaii
has won 22 consecutive games, a school record.

 

Seasiders Blow by HPU

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team scored the
first seven points of the game, raced out to a 15-2 lead, and never
looked back in defeating Hawaii Pacific 99-64 tonight in the final Pacific
West Conference game of the season for both teams.  The win capped a
perfect 12-0 conference season for the third-ranked Seasiders as they
became the first team to go through the conference undefeated.  The win
boosts the Seasiders’ school-record winning streak to 21 straight games
and moves the team to 24-1 for the season.

 

Chang Honored by PacWest

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii freshman guard Jet Chang has been
named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
for the past week.  Chang led the third-ranked Seasiders to three wins,
two of them on the road, this past week to earn the award.  He is the
third Seasider honored by the conference this season as Player of the
Week, joining Lucas Alves (three times) and Nathan Sims.

 

Seasiders Still Top West Region

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team continued
to hold on to the top spot in the NCAA II West Regional poll released
today by the NCAA.  The Seasiders, 23-1 for the season and ranked third
nationally in the coach’s poll, are undefeated at 17-0 in the West
Region and appear to have the top seed locked up for the regional
tournament.  The regional poll ultimately determines which teams make
the post-season and where the regional tournament will be played.

 

Men Still Third

Laie, HI—There was no change at the top of the National Association of
Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II men’s basketball poll as each of
the top three teams won all their games last week.  Brigham Young
University Hawaii remained in third place behind the two undefeated
NCAA II teams, Findlay (OH) and LIU-C.W. Post (NY).  The Seasiders,
winners of 20 straight games and 23-1 overall, received 184 points in
the poll, the same number they received each of the last three weeks
since moving into the third position for the first time to set a new
high for the school in the voting.

 

Seasiders Streak to 20 with Close Win

Honolulu, HI—Freshman Jet Chang scored 24 of his game-high 32 points in the
second half to lead the third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii
men’s basketball team to a thrilling, come-from-behind, 97-94 victory
over Chaminade tonight in a non-conference game in Honolulu.  With the
win, the Seasiders extended their school-record winning streak to 20
games and improved to 23-1 for the season.

 

Seasiders Outlast Chaminade

Laie, HI—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team extended its school-record winning streak to 19 games tonight with
an extremely physical 109-104 non-conference win over Chaminade that
saw 59 fouls called in the game and four players ejected.  The
Seasiders, now 22-1 for the season and still 11-0 in the PacWest,
overcame a 53-51 halftime deficit and a subpar shooting night to defeat
the Silverswords for the third time this season.

 

Seasiders Stay Atop Regional Poll

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team continued
to hold on to the top spot in the NCAA II West Regional poll released
today by the NCAA.  The Seasiders, 21-1 for the season and ranked third
nationally in the coach’s poll, are undefeated at 15-0 in the West
Region, although this week’s win against Grand Canyon was not included
in the records used for the voting.  The regional poll ultimately

Winning Streak Hits 18

Phoenix, AZ—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team extended its school-record winning streak to 18 games tonight with
an 86-71 victory over Grand Canyon in a Pacific West Conference game on
the road.  The Seasiders, now 21-1 for the season and 11-0 in the
PacWest, had to overcome losing PacWest Player of the Year Lucas Alves
to fouls early in the second half amidst a strong comeback by the
Antelopes, but got strong contributions from several players to pull
away to the win.

 

Seasiders Clinch PacWest Title

St. George, UT—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s
basketball team clinched the Pacific West Conference championship
tonight with a 92-77 victory over Dixie State College on the road.  The
Seasiders never trailed against the Red Storm in improving to 20-1 for
the season and 10-0 in the PacWest while running their school-record
winning streak to 17 games.

Belmont, CA—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team
clinched at least a tie for the Pacific West Conference championship
tonight with a rain-delayed, 86-52 victory over Notre Dame de Namur on
the road.  The Seasiders blew open a tight game late in the first half
to improve to 19-1 for the season and 9-0 in the PacWest with their
record-breaking 16th consecutive victory.

for the third time this season.  Alves led the eighth-ranked Seasiders
to a pair of road wins over UH-Hilo this past week to earn the award.

 

Seasiders Run Streak to 15 with Nail-Biter

Hilo, HI—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team withstood a determined UH-Hilo rally to hold on for an 84-81
victory tonight in a non-conference road game and tied the school
record for consecutive victories in the process.  The Seasiders, now
18-1 for the season and 8-0 in the Pacific West Conference, won for the
15th consecutive time to match the record set by the 1991-92 BYU–Hawaii
team.

Hilo, HI—The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team went on the road and won its 14th straight game tonight, defeating
UH-Hilo in a Pacific West Conference game, 83-71.  Junior Lucas Alves
scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and the Seasiders held off a
Vulcan rally to improve to 17-1 for the season and 8-0 in the PacWest.

new high today in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches
(NABC) Division II poll, climbing one spot to number three.  The
Seasiders, winners of 13 straight games and 16-1 overall, received 184
points in the poll to set a new high for the school in the voting.  The
Seasiders were ranked third on all eight ballots cast in the poll to
place behind the nation’s two undefeated NCAA II teams, Findlay (OH)
and LIU-C.W. Post (NY).

 

Seasiders Win 13th Straight

Laie, HI—The fourth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team won its 13th straight game tonight, defeating Grand Canyon in a
Pacific West Conference game, 101-81.  The Seasiders improved to 16-1
for the season and 7-0 in the PacWest behind a balanced attack that
featured six players in double figures as they opened up a 25-point
halftime lead and cruised to the win.

 

Buensuceso is Cousy Finalist

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Virgil (J.R.) Buensuceso has been
named by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in conjunction
with The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG) as one of
this year’s Finalists for the Bob Cousy Award presented by The
Hartford, an honor presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate
point guard. The 17 Finalists were chosen from a pool of over sixty top
candidates from NCAA Division I, II and III institutions across the
country. The 2009 Finalists were selected by screening committees
comprised of media members representing all three divisions of
collegiate basketball.  Buensuceso is one of only two nominees from the
NCAA II ranks.

 

Alves All-Academic

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Lucas Alves was honored today with
a spot on the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team for
District VIII, which comprises the Western United States.  The district
honor automatically puts Alves on the national ballot which will be
voted on next week.  Alves also made the District VIII squad last year.

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team held firm
to the number four position in the latest National Association of
Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll today.  The Seasiders,
winners of 12 straight games and 15-1 overall, received 177 points in
the poll to set a new high for the school in the voting.  The Seasiders
reached the nation’s fourth spot last week to mark the highest NCAA II
ranking ever for the program.

 

Seasiders Take Sole Possession of First Place with Win Over Red Storm

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Lucas Alves overcame a sluggish
start to score 33 points to lead the fourth-ranked Seasiders men’s
basketball team to a 100-79 win tonight over Dixie State in a battle
for the top spot in the Pacific West Conference.  The Seasiders and Red
Storm both came into the game with identical 5-0 records in conference
play but the Seasiders took sole possession of first place at 6-0 with
the win.  BYU–Hawaii is now 15-1 overall for the season.

 

BYU-Hawaii Sets Record for Best Start

Laie, HI—The fourth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team defeated a determined Chaminade squad tonight, 96-81, in an
important Pacific West Conference game.  With the win, the Seasiders
set a new standard for the best start to a season with a 14-1 mark,
surpassing the 13-1 start by the 1993-94 team.  BYU–Hawaii also ran its
conference record to 5-0 to pull a half game ahead of Dixie State (4-0)
in the conference standings.

the top spot in the first NCAA II West Regional poll of the season,
released today by the NCAA.  The Seasiders, 13-1 for the season and
ranked fourth nationally in the coach’s poll, are undefeated at 7-0 in

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team climbed
another spot in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Division II poll today, moving up to number four.  The move gives the
Seasiders the highest ranking in school history in Division II play,
surpassing last week’s number five ranking.  The Seasiders made the
jump upwards despite dropping four points in the poll from last week’s
record-setting 167.

 

Seasiders Match Best Start in History

Laie, HI—The fifth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team ran away from Academy of Art tonight, defeating the visiting Urban
Knights 107-60 to improve to 13-1 for the season.  The 13-1 record
matches the best start in BYU–Hawaii history, set previously during the
1993-94 season.

 

Seasiders Keep Winning

Honolulu, HI—The fifth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team defeated Hawaii Pacific tonight, 72-54, in a non-conference game
to improve to 12-1 for the season.  The Seasiders won despite shooting
well below their NCAA II-leading field goal and three-point percentages
as they shot just 43.9 percent from the field and only 23.5 percent
from beyond the arc.

 

Top Five for Seasiders

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team reached
another milestone today as they moved up three spots to number five in
the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II
poll.  The jump gives the Seasiders the highest ranking in school
history in Division II play, surpassing the number six ranking the
Seasiders received earlier this season in the December 6th poll.  The
167 points the Seasiders received in today’s voting also established a
new record, eclipsing the 149 received last week.

 

Alves is Player of the Week

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior forward Lucas Alves has been
named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
for the second time this season.  Alves led the eighth-ranked Seasiders
to a pair of conference wins this past week to earn the award.

 

Seasiders Roll Over Argonauts

Laie, HI—The eighth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team ran away from Notre Dame de Namur tonight, 104-67, to win its
eighth straight game and remain undefeated in the Pacific West
Conference.  The Seasiders shot a sizzling 63.8 percent from the field
against the Argonauts to improve to 4-0 in the PacWest and 11-1
overall.  The Seasiders also held a huge edge on the boards,
out-rebounding Notre Dame de Namur 45-19 for the night

 

Hot Shooting Leads Seasiders Over Silverswords

Honolulu, HI—The eighth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team won its seventh straight game tonight, defeating Chaminade 105-97,
to improve to 3-0 in the Pacific West Conference and 10-1 overall.  The
Seasiders shot 58 percent from the field in taking a 57-44 halftime
lead, extended the lead to as many as 19 points in the second half, and
then withstood a furious Chaminade rally to claim the win.

 

BYU-Hawaii Jumps One Spot

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team moved up
one spot to number eight in the National Association of Basketball
Coaches (NABC) Division II poll today.  The Seasiders received 38 more
points in the poll than they did in last week’s poll but were only able
to gain the single place in the rankings.

 

Seasiders Scorch Sea Warriors

Honolulu, HI—The ninth-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball
team took off on a 13-0 run to pull away from a 4-4 tie early in the
first half and dominated Hawaii Pacific tonight, 93-71, in a Pacific
West Conference game.  The Seasiders, now 9-1 for the season and 2-0 in
the PacWest, led 60-30 at halftime behind J.R. Buensuceso’s 16
first-half points and coasted to the win.

 

Seasiders Defeat Vulcans Again

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team scorched
the net in the first half to establish a 17-point halftime lead at
50-33 and went on to defeat UH-Hilo tonight, 83-69, in a non-conference
game to improve to 8-1 for the season.  Junior Lucas Alves, who was
held scoreless in the first half in last night’s battle between the two
teams, came out firing on all cylinders tonight and netted 17 of his
game-high 26 points in the opening period as the Seasiders shot 58.8
percent in the half to take control of the game.

 

Seasiders Pull Out Close Win Over Vulcans

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team battled
its way to a 94-91 Pacific West Conference win tonight over UH-Hilo in
a hard-fought, physical game in Laie.  The Seasiders’ Nate Sims scored
on a lay-in with 25 seconds to play to give the Seasiders a one-point
lead and Jermaine Odjegba hit a pair of clutch free throws with 1.4
seconds on the clock for the winning margin.  A last-second three-point
attempt from well beyond half-court by the Vulcans was way off the mark.

 

Seasiders Back in Top Ten

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team jumped
back into the top ten today as the Seasiders rose three spots in the
National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll,
moving to number as the poll resumed after a holiday break.  The
Seasiders, 6-1 for the season, were 12th in the December 23rd poll and
won their only game since, an 80-63 victory over Hillsdale (MI).

 

Sims Nabs Honor

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii senior guard Nathan Sims has been
named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
for the week of December 22-28.  Sims led the Seasiders to a win over
Hillsdale (MI) in BYU–Hawaii’s only action of the week.  He is the
second Seasider this season to be honored as Player of the Week by the
conference.

 

Seasiders Stop Chargers

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team overcame a
sluggish start to defeat Hillsdale College (MI) tonight, 80-63, to
improve to 6-1 for the season.  The 12th-ranked Seasiders trailed by
seven three different times in the first half and were down 25-18 with
under eight minutes to play in the opening period before closing the
half with an 18-5 run to go into the break with a 36-30 lead and never
trailed again.

 

Seasiders Ranked 12th

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team fell six
spots in the national rankings this week in the National Association of
Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll, falling to number 12 after
losing a game last week. Last week the Seasiders reached the school’s
highest ever NCAA ranking, at number six, but lost to Washburn early
last week before closing out the week with two wins to improve to 5-1
for the season.

 

Seasiders Cut Down Oaks

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team scored the
first 15 points of the game and cruised to an 86-52 win over Menlo
College (CA) tonight in the final game of the Hoop ‘N Surf Tournament. 
The sixth-ranked Seasiders held the visitors without a point for the
first 5:35 of the contest as they improved to 5-1 for the season.

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young
University Hawaii men’s basketball team’s home games will now be
available for live viewing on the internet.  The games will be made
available on the b2 Network beginning with the December 20th game
against Menlo College.  Seasider fans will be able to gain access to

Second Half Explosion Carries Seasiders

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team bounced
back from its first loss of the season last night to defeat Drury (MO),
83-62, in the Hoop ‘N Surf Tournament today in a game played at 2:00 in
the afternoon after last night’s 8:30 pm start time.  The sixth-ranked
Seasiders, now 4-1 for the year, took the court a scant 14 hours after
returning to Laie after late night’s start and after another hour’s bus
ride to Honolulu to play today in the Blaisdell Center.  The ordeal
showed in the first half as the Seasiders trailed by five, 39-34, at
the break but the team roared back in the second half by outscoring the
Panthers 49-23 after intermission.

 

Seasiders Lose to Ichabods

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team suffered
its first defeat of the season tonight, losing to Washburn 75-68 in the
Hoop ‘N Surf Tournament in a game played at McKinley High School.  The
sixth-ranked Seasiders, who had not played a game in three weeks showed
signs of rust as they shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the
second half and only 37.1 percent for the game.  BYU–Hawaii was just
2-12 (16.7 percent) from three-point range and only 20-31 (64.5
percent) from the free throw line.

 

Seasiders Sixth

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team continued
its climb up the national rankings by moving up two spots to number six
in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II
poll this week to establish another new high for the team.  Last week
the Seasiders reached the school’s highest ever NCAA ranking, at number
eight, so this week’s ranking sets a new milestone for the school. 
BYU–Hawaii moved to NCAA II at the beginning of the 1998-99 season.

 

Highest Ranking Yet for Seasiders

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team reached a
new high in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Division II poll this week, moving up one spot from number nine to
number eight.  It is the highest ranking attained by the Seasiders
since moving to Division II at the beginning of the 1998-99 season.

 

Seasiders Crack Top Ten

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team jumped six
more spots in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
Division II poll cracking the top 10 at the number nine spot this week
to match the school’s highest NCAA II ranking ever.  The Seasiders were
ranked number nine last year in the December 18th poll and also hit the
ninth spot back on December 21, 2004.

 

Alves Honored by PacWest

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior forward Lucas Alves has been
named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
for the week of November 17-23.  Alves led the Seasiders to two
victories over defending national champion Winona State during the week
and helped the Seasiders jump eight spots in the national rankings from
23rd to 15th.

 

Seasiders Lead from Beginning to End

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team continued their hot play
tonight beating Western New Mexico 108-92 in a game that the Seasiders
led the whole way.  The Seasiders finished with five scores in double
figures, led by the big man and guard duo of Lucas Alves, 28 points,
and Trenson Akana, 23 points.  The Seasiders are now 3-0.

 

Seasiders Jump in Polls

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team jumped eight spots in the
National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll
going from pre-season ranked 23 to this week’s poll at 15th.  The boost
came from the two giant home wins against last years NCAA DII national
champions Winona St (MN).  The Seasiders beat the Warriors in a close
game on the first night 78-76 and with renewed confidence dominated
them on the second night 92-80 with consistent leads of 20 or more
throughout the contest.  The Warriors fell ten spots from eighth to
18th.

 

Seasiders Stop Warriors Again

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team went on a
17-0 run at the 7:30 mark of the first half to open up a 20-point lead
and went on to defeat the defending NCAA II champions from Winona State
92-80 tonight.  The win gave the Seasiders a 2-0 record to open the
season with both victories coming over the ninth-ranked Warriors.

 

Seasiders Open with Win Over Defending Champs

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team opened the
season with an exciting, 78-76 victory over defending NCAA II champion
Winona State tonight before an energized crowd in the Cannon Activities
Center.  Junior center Lucas Alves, the Pacific West Conference
pre-season Player of the Year, lived up to the billing by scoring 27
points and pulling down 12 rebounds to lead the Seasiders to the win.

 

Men's Basketball to Open with Defending Champions

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team will open the 2008-09
season tomorrow night with high expectations against the defending NCAA
II national champions.  The Seasiders, who made it to the “Sweet
Sixteen” last season, will take on Winona State, a team that has won
two of the last three NCAA II titles and finished second in between the
two crowns, at 7:30 pm in the Cannon Activities Center in Laie.


Seasiders Complete Exhibition Season with Win

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated
Hawaii Select tonight. 81-65, in an exhibition game in Laie.  The
Seasiders led by just four points, 37-33, at the half but pulled away
in the second half for the win.

 

Seasiders Win Big in Exhibition

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team opened the
exhibition season today with a 121-58 win over the New Zealand Saints
in the American Money Group Asia-Pacific Basketball Classic in Laie. 
Fourteen different players scored for the Seasiders as they shot a
blistering 70 percent from the field for the game.
